Well just set your pulley at 0 then pop the rocker cover off get the crank to TDC when no 4 cylinder is rocking on the lobes no1 the lobes should be both facing away from the rockers evenly that will give you your standard timing stick the belt on and turn the crank twice by hand then recheck that should get you started any way hope this helps

so the lobes on number 1 and 4 should be pointing directly up yeah

Yea that's it they should be around the 2oclock and 10oclock ish position on no1 and direct opposite on 4 just between opening the two valves that's called rocking so if ya get me it's rocking on 4 and firing on 1 hope I'm not confusing you

To get no1 to top dead centre remove no1 spark plug and poke a long screw driver in, then turn the crank gently until you feel the screwdriver raise. When the screw driver comes all the way up and then starts to go back down, take it back to its highest point. This should be no1 at top dead centre and follow the above for cam setup. Once their both in position throw your belt on. It's a completely pikey method but with out a timing cover there's not much else you can do.

theres actualy a mark on the small crank pulley that lines up with a line just above the sump so the setting the crank is easy enough

just to get this right, the cam lobes on cylinder 1 should be around the 2 and 4 oclock position same with the lobes for cylinder 4?

Cam lobes should be at 10 and 2 o'clock on 1 and 4
