View Full Version : Fray Bentos pies.....?
Just had one of these things for my tea, the thin tin type that you take the lid off with a tin opener and bake in the oven.
Thing bubbled up nicely and went all pie-esque with a puff pastry lid which looked really good.
Question is, how the feck are you meant to get it out afterwards, baring in mind that the tin is now roasting hot, and it only has a pastry lid and no pastry round the pie itself :tard:
Ended up tipping it out and had steak and ale on a puff pastry base which was nice enough but nothing anymore like a pie:wtf: lol
Too many of these will kill you. They are really bad for you. Lol.
Taste nice though.
You should have eaten it out the tin. Lol
Feck that it was red hot as it had just spent half an hour in the oven on gas mark 8 lol
And its the first one ive ever had, hence not knowing how to work it once cooked:p
Hold it in a folded tea towel so you can just eat it out of the tin
But then i cant put my mash and gravy onto the tea towel though:cry:

Remove pastry lid carefully and place to one side. Tip out contents onto plate & remount pastry lid. Voila!
But why doesnt it have sides though, normal pies do as thats what keeps the contents from escaping lol
Pies dont need a side/base. Bloody norveners :p
Fray Bentos pies are a dirty pleasure :)
Yes they do, how ya sposed to put it on your plate with no base lol

Can't you eat them unheated?
Nope, the pastry is all gooey when you open the tin lid so it needs baking:cry:

to get it onto the plate with pastry side up you need to run a knife round the edge of the tin. hold tin in hand with folded tea towel ( oven gloves if your posh lol) use the knife to hold pastry lid up and pour contents from under pastry lid onto plate them allow pastry to sit nicely on top :)
P.S hope it was steak and kidny :thumb:
P.P.S i must stop eating soo many as i have it down to a t for getting them out the tin lol
