View Full Version : which tyres and wheels?
I am currently running my SR on standard steels with 165 michelin classic tyres,
for having a go on a track would I be better using my standard wheels as they are michelins or better with my three spoke alloys with random 185s on it?
I am on a budget and am just going for a try to see if I like it so not buying tyres especially for this.
stick the 185s on for the track but drive there on the 165s
thanks for that but, why drive there on the 165s?
the 185's random or not with the correct tyre pressures should be better, but would depend on make, imo unless its wet road tyres are cr*p buy yourself some second hand advan a032/48 they come up on the bay I have a garage full but your miles from me...

thanks, I will have a llook on the bay if I like my first go on the track, however a really basic question, looking at 185s on 14" three spokes, what is the correct air pressure, I was thinking 26 psi?

You might really rinse out the 185s on the track and you don't want to be caught short driving home on illegal rubber. This may be of some use to have a look at re tyre pressures etc :-)

Thanks, very useful
Knockhill can be very hard on the front o/s tyre, my brother burned out a pair of front tyres on his RS turbo in 2 sessions !! Then had to drive home hoping not to get stopped by the cops lol
Also it best if you have a mate to bung the spare wheels in their car while your on track, or atleast keep an eye on them for you,
Thanks, I'll probably only go a few sessions as it's my first go, I am pretty worried about annoying other drivers though, my car is only 1.3 and obviously I am inexperienced ( a virgin I supppose!). So hopefully if I am only on the track a few times on the day they will not be too hacked off?
Knockhill usually put all the unexperianced drivers together in the same group, I wouldnt worry about being in a slower car tbh
thanks, it will be wierd being a beginner at anything at my age, they say you never stop learning.
