after buying the sr ive been driving it daily but noticed its very sore on fuel

gave it a full service, all filters and plugs, oil change

car starts and takes over well with no high revs etc and drives well and responsive

before i have the 2e carb looked at is there anything else i can do to possibly increase mpg

at the minute im getting around 90miles for my £20 of unleaded

i dont drive overly hard, maybe the very odd time id rev it to 5000 but its mostly 3mile journeys to work and home.

considering its a light mk1 with a 1300 and standard exhaust, airfilter etc

I have to say my Sport does 27mpg on a run and the SR does 28mpg, bearing in mind neither are standard!!

Dont forget that these days youre only getting what used to be a tenner's worth of fuel for your £20, so thinking of it like that, 90 miles to a tenner is about right tbf lol

The SR idles high when cold, with fuel choke and doesn't really come down until it's out of the blue, this is when it is very expensive re mpg.

With mixed running on long and short journeys you should get at least 40 mpg, and on long journeys where it is mostly 60mph, you should get up to 50 mpg.

The 2e carb is really bad for running wrong, get the auto choke, mixture and all vacuums checked. You can alter the auto choke and cold idle speed to make it a little more efficient when cold if all your running is cold, but to be honest, if you are only doing short journeys of a few miles even in an injection car your mpg will be high.

Hope this helps

when my SR was @ 2 years old, I drove to Dorset at @ 60mph and achieved 63mpglol

Before I took it off the road in 1996 she did @ 30mpg with 150 miles on it

Hope it helps:tard:

I know this isnt the same but when i was running my 1.0l as a daily i was getting at best 30 miles to a tenner, carb was screwed and engine did have 120.00 miles on it which didnt help.

carb set up and ignition timing has to be correct for any efficeincy, otherwise these thigns just burn fuel and go nowhere
