Had it for 2 days, not even had chance to clean it for some decent photos... Driver of the arctic didn't check his left hand side before turning into me :(

Bye bye beamer. :(

(they were actually a bit late as well)

Gutted as it took me 2 months to find a good one, and that one was near enough perfect condition, as you can probably see, as it still looks good somehow after being mangled.

99% sure it's a write off as the front wheels sit slightly back/forwards from where they should be and both full sides have some sort of damage on them. Luckily someone else phoned the police and they were there very quickly, took statements and the driver admitted not looking before he moved. Also have other details I'm not sure if it's wise or not to put here as legal stuff is a minefield so I'll avoid it until all is settled etc.

Didn't feel too bad after the incident, but have some odd joint pains/grinding/clicking now and generally ache like I've been hit by a lorry. Just glad (in a way, as it's now trashed :/) I was in the BMW as the Nova would have just splattered. The BMW runs and drives, and all the doors open still!
:(

Service from Sky was absolutely awesome too, everything is arranged/in process, they had 2 recovery companies to phone to see who came first, and were generally spot on.

I believe it was ever so slightly bent on what the police report called a 'safety rail' I didn't find it particularly safe myself, but go BMW for bending a lorry.

Fooking hell, bit of a mess. And thats 10000% a write-off.

Lol course thats a write off, if someone stole a valve cap and you claimed off the insurance they would write it off, its 15 years old lol

Out of interest, what were you doing going up the blind side of a wagon that was turning left?

Highway code - Rule 221

Large vehicles. These may need extra road space to turn or to deal with a hazard that you are not able to see. If you are following a large vehicle, such as a bus or articulated lorry, be aware that the driver may not be able to see you in the mirrors. Be prepared to stop and wait if it needs room or time to turn.

it won't have damaged anything other than the side under-run bar, were you parked or moving at the time?

Put a biscuit rim on & it'll be good as new that :)

Jeez... That does look a mess! And the damage hasn't helped matters... lol

As said, no doubt that it'll be written off. They wont even bat aneyelid, just give you a call with a price. Mint or not, it's likely to be no more than £500.

Rep for Hobbit. Lets hope the 3rd parties insurance doesn't take thatstance and bend you over the barrel and make little MK999's (heaven forbid...!) :gay:

I was passing it as it was stuck in traffic, wasn't turning left, he changed lanes while I was down the side of him (Thought I said that in the first post?) I stopped as soon as he moved, but stopped too far down that side of him. Police report states he was at fault as he failed to look left before changing lanes.

Yeah I was in the car, was a tad traumatic it has to be said, sounds somewhat like a car being crushed  Got out the passenger window like a hero though lol (oh yeah the electric windows still work too!)

3rd parties insurances claim was I mounted the kerb and wedged myself in there before he moved! Obviously hadn't spoken to their driver, the police, or anyone else for that matter at this point.

Also, rim on the other side is bollocks'd too, partly right though, as it does start and drive still and all the doors open lol

fair, his fault then, **** know why you would admit changing lanes without checking your mirrors  or for that matter change lanes without looking.

Then again if I was in the car I wouldn't go up the blind side of a wagon even when crawling in traffic...

i never ever ever ever go anywhere near an HGV's inside/outside no matter what the circumstances/traffic situation, ive seen things like this happen too many times

Deffo write off.

LOL at you singing SKYs praises, still very early days. My mums car was written off by them in March, and still no £!

L14MNP
15-09-11, 01:59 PM
A clear write-off there. Don't get into that BMW mentality of "I have a prestige car, and it's strong enough to bend a wagon, so the insurers will repair the minor damage" mate!

You love crashing. lol

As said by a few others, I would never go up the inside of a wagon/bus etc. Even if he checks his mirrors, he may still not see you!

As for the safety bar on the trailer, I assume that is the thing what is also known as a 'Mini stopper'? i'd say they're quite safe! You saw what happened to the Saleen Mustang on 2F2F. lol

Hope you get it sorted Mark, but my guess would be that this goes to a 50/50 at best given the circumstances.

Bet you're glad you weren't rockin the staggered Stars!

MK999
15-09-11, 04:23 PM
Definitely glad I didn't have the stars on!

No chance of a 50/50 as he admitted fault at the side of the road as well as a police report that backs this up/records him admitting fault and a witness. I was only doing what you're supposed to do in traffic, he changed lanes into me.

edit: Paul have they given any reason etc for it being so long to pay out?

mowgli
15-09-11, 06:23 PM
tell his insurance to Forklift trUCK off if they try to claim it was your fault.. its standard practice for them....

next time, either get right up alongside the cab so he can see you, or stay back.. my mate saw a cyclist get squashed in oxford by a wagon legally turning left into a side road with his indicator on....

also use your hooter a lot... a decent driver will stop & look if he hears one blasting....

MK999
15-09-11, 06:31 PM
They've already tried the standard practice liability claim, saying I mounted the kerb to get past him and got stuck on the railing, errrr...no lol

I was actually trying to stay back when I saw him move, could see his mirrors, was over as far as I could etc and he had enough room to go up onto the IDR that is the left on that roundabout if that's what he was trying to do, but he then came wildly left i.e changing lanes.

Believe me I won't be down the inside or outside of a HGV again in a hurry though, the state I'd be in, if any state besides dead, if I was in the Nova instead of the BMW, which would have squashed far easier and the 'safety rail' would have been roughly head height instead, doesn't really bear thinking about.

edit: Also on the horn it may well have been my instinctive reaction in the Nova, but instinctively in the BMW I may well have been thinking "where is it" As I was still in the finding the right button stage of ownership, i'm not really sure to be honest, all I really remember is the sound of a car getting crushed and it happening quite quickly, whether it did or not I'm not really sure, it's just what you tend to remember in these situations.

my missus had her old golf squashed by a wagon. she was waiting to turn right at a t junction in a banbury ind est. this artic came fromm the left & wanted to turn round, reversed in by her & set off taking her up the road, snagged up on the left landing leg, and she ended up wedged between the wagon & a lamp post.. she was on the hooter & climbed into the back..another wagon driver alerted the idiot to what had gone on.. then a few years later, she was passing a stationary 4 wheeler when he decided to pull off & sideswiped her escort (thank god, it was crap).......it took my missus about 15 years before she could overtake a wagon....

just get an omega td. bmw power but without the whole selling drugs on council estates thing......ps the omega handles really well, in fact, when it was launched the respected motoring press advised bmw & merc to raise their game....

MK999
15-09-11, 09:12 PM
Omega has the TD engine, not the TDS, it's down 35bhp and just doesn't respond as well. The TDS was no rocket ship either tbh. Sky also agreed to cover TDS/TD for the same price, so I'd like to keep to that agreement as it was a good deal.

I was also pretty happy with the difference in BMW stuff, I quite like the selling drugs on council estate styling and the fact the bonnet opens the wrong way lol My dad had an omega for ages and it's just a much better car in general tbh.

mowgli
15-09-11, 09:13 PM
oooh... now where could you lay your hands on a tds engine???????

MK999
15-09-11, 09:18 PM
Probably the same place I bend over and lube up for the quote on an engine converted Omega instead of just insuring the standard car, as well as spending a week shoehorning the big ******* in? :p

camshaft & injector pump is different at most...

camshaft & injector pump is different at most...

Management system, intercooler, pump (which is coded to ECU) and turbo iirc. All of which make for an expensive insurance quote.

looks bad but fixable. done alot worse than that.

MK999
15-09-11, 09:56 PM
Fixable but not economical, thought about looking into getting it repaired but no doubt it would be well over £1000, which is what the cars worth on a good day to the right person.

edit: Also the front wheels sit slightly forward/back of where they should so something underneath is buggered too, as well as the rear axle no doubt.
