Once again me & fellow PNGer Frankly made the trip to Overstone in Northants for E38. We both appreciate the build quality of the VW show cars & the vibe of the show in general.

I'll let the pics do the talking, one of my highlights of the weekend was driving Franks Nova to the show, good to get behind the wheel of a GSi again, frank was a bit anxious as to what reception his nova would get once in the show, but after some dodgy looks as we went in through the gates, generally there was a lot of people taking pics & coming over for a chat, 'Is it a Redtop?' etc lol

All those poor VW owners, take their pride and joy to a car show and some horrible thieves go and pinch all their suspension.

Some very nice V-Dub's/VAG cars with very nice wheels. Lot's of alloy inspiration for me to think about :thumb:

Is it me or do they all 'look the same' ?

There is a general 'theme' with the styling i.e. Decked, big polished/gold cross spoked BBS style rims/fancy 5 spokes/VAG high end wheels, smooth body, minimal engine bay etc

General trends do take time to gradually come & go.
To be fair most Vauxhalls all look the same if you take that view.

The attention to detail & build quality has to be seen to be believed, the paint jobs are like noting I've seen in Vauxhall circles, you can get carried away looking at just one car.

I overtook @ 20-25 VW's on Friday when I came back from holiday, passed them all in my Range Rover whilst towing my caravan, as they were "cruising" at 45 mph on the motorway as they had no suspension travel/tyre clearance to the arches.

Some of the cars looked really good, however if you can't travel at a decent pace from place to place..............Err why bother?

So samey! They do turn out some decent cars, but they're not the only ones.

Watercooled Dubbers have a massive, unwarranted chip on their shoulder and general disdain for anything that does not wear that stupid badge. No need.

The way they're leeching off the JDM 'scene' is very annoying too. They moan about others copying them, then they nick stuff from the finest looking/handling/fastest cars in the world at the same time as having 'Jap Crap' stickers etc. Err do you realise that cool plate on your car is from Japan you tunnel vision posessed cretin?!

lol

im a fan of the older vw's but the new vw scene is rediculous, if you got a healthy sized wallet you can 'build' a show car.
For example, buy a brand new golf/passat/scirocco + a set of brand new bbs' or rotaforms + air ride = show car :wtf:
Just imo, least the older cars are built and as said previously, really well in most cases, love the leather recaros

some great pics there, like others i prefer the older stuff like the mk 1-2 golfs but not a huge fan of the newer stuff, that said there was some nice looking newer stuff there audi wise and that old audi in the raffle was awsome looking....

Love MK1 Golf's i must have said this loads of times, if i could have one i would be an old X-A reg MK1 in mars red total standard body wise, Perilla P slot's 2ltr 8v turbo, Job jobbed.. All understated, as i rememberer there was one like this near my house when i was a kid, i used to always walk past it on my way to school and think/dream about owning one.

Maybe one day???

As for the comments, I'm afraid i do have agree with them all being sameish, and Lee will tell you all about the watercool attitude in there clubs/scene, he was one, why do think he's a cock! lol lol

All valid comments tbh, many people we met at the weekend were really nice people, it seems a lot of the nu-wave stuff (bagged A6's on Rotiforms etc) are on credit anyway. At the other end of the spectrum is the 'poverty Polo' brigade, ratted out & full of stickers, thats how you roll if you are skint it seems.

Yeah we're both "skint" but we don't drag chains across our bonnets and kick the doors in and slap stickers all over one wing! lol

The buiold & attention to detail on this mk2 was incredible, carbon (wrapped?) fuel tank, so much chrome & carbon everywhere, gorgeous leather & 220bhp G60 driven all the way from Germany.

I love J-techs mk2, although i didnt go to edition but i have had a good mooch about the car in there workshop.
The build quality of this car is unreal, and is an absolute animal! (pic stolen form my mates fb)

As much as I dislike nu-rat/shat look/fake patina etc and sticker bombing, it's fair enough.

What I find incredulous is that these people compare their car to everything else. In many cases they consider it much better and more 'individual'. Yeah, as individual as the latest issue of Fast Car mate!

The overall attitude of the water cooled scene stinks! lol

the missus got a fantastic mk1 back in the early 90's... x reg 1300 3dr, no rust, lemon yellow, bbs ripoff wheels, gti body kit... i got its tracking done, and it was ace. the handling was a breath of fresh air... the mk1 is by far the best golf ever made....
a lorry hit it... the wheels lived on on my brother's b plate caddy pickup.. as did most of the body kit.. then the diesel engine got blown up, and they were too much money, so we stuck a scirocco 1.8 carb lump in it, and my god it was fun for a works pickup... i'm talking 120mph with the back full of sand... it ate brakes oddly enough
