Hi All,

Hope you are all enjoying the summer (???) .

Patrick and myself decided to take ourselves on a bit of a trip at the weekend just gone to pick up a car . Patrick came as I have a friends and family railcard, it was cheaper for us both to go than me on my own? .....

We started off here :-

Then got off at Sheffield here :-

Then got to Birmingham New Street ...

And eventually arrived here ...

We picked up the car and then had a food stop ....

The car in question is a 2002 Astra Coupe Turbo .....

It was cheap and has done 101k . The plan is to strip the car for spares and shove the parts on ebay or MIG (no offense PNG'ers) , however, I may keep the engine, gearbox and front brakes for a project that I may do in 18 months time :thumb:

If anyone wants any parts in the meantime let me know!

I'd like the hole car seems a shame to break it

Its not in a great condition bodywork wise. There is a scratch across the bonnet, about 5 dints in the back quarters (looks like golf ball dinks) and the general paint work looks as though its been cleaned with a brillo pad.

Its worth more in parts than as a whole to be honest, hence why I purchased it. I know the engine (Z20LET) and gear box is worth about £1200 just on their own. The interior is in good condition and the seats are nice and comfy!

There is a fair bit of surface rust underneath as well . You'd be better off looking elsewhere!

Seems a shame to break it, but it's your car and you do as you please.
I'll have a word with a mate of mine as he's after a few bits for his mk4

Come and have a poke round sometime not a problem. Front splitter and brake ducts already have dibs on them !

I was thinking along these lines, once I have put a few miles on the Meriva , its a nice car, but the 1.4 couldn't pull the skin off the proverbial pudding!

Train took about 2.5 hours and was £18 . Actual time on the train was about an hour and 50 mins, the added time was waiting for connections.

It seemed to fly by as Patrick saw it as a bit of an adventure (plus the offer of a MacDonalds was on the cards!). I also got to play Top Trumps on the train which was cool !

I didn't hang about put it that way .... food , fuel and onto the M5 as soon as I could! It didn't seem to have any history , charm or character.

I did see a big castle on a Hill but that was getting more into Dudley than Tipton.

It's not a place I plan on going to again !

I've been to the giddy heights of Derby last night and this morning to do an exam - another example of a bit run down place without much character. I was staying in Pride Park - a bit retail and business park next to the railway line .

I passed so I now have a Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning and will be allowed to give advice beyond 2012 !
