Right Ive done some searching for places that band steel wheels etc,
Seems theres a place that specialises in them, banded steels.com, but there bound to be massively expensive! plus there website looks a bit out dated, not sure if there trading..
And Ive googled up some threads on RetroRides etc, and found a member on there who does them £45 a wheel for 14's and another thread that said of a company doing them £20 a wheel..
But I'm just wondering who on here knows of places that do them?

PM Brettski, he had the ones that Merris has on his SR.
i once emailed about bandedsteels.com and they was very exspensive not only do you have to pay for the banding but posting both ways is extra.

Could always have a go at something like this CLICKYME (http://www.kustomcoachwerks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4913) :d
Reason it's so expensive is the difference between laser cutting and CNC tig welding wheels bang on straight to within minutes of a degree and some fella in his shed with an angle grinder and a MIG welder that lines it up by eye.

You are paying for safety tbh, i have two of bretts old spares, and iirc they cost around £200+ a pair, it's only your safety!

are you thinking of doing 13" wheels scott? I found that they were a pita if i'm honest. it tramlined on the motorway really bad. There's not a lot of tyre choice in 13" either. I would do them again but run 175 50 13's on a 5 door. (they'd never clear the arches on a 3 door!) like so.

You need to do your research scott, i had the extra width put in to the outer dish of the face, it can be put in the middle or the inner as well. :)
Scott, dont bother unless
A-They are show only wheels
2-Or if you intend on enjoying driving the car.

I was looking at getting 14" done John, but would want them slightly more central if poss, that's why i wondered what with you had added etc, these would be on the mk1 for daily use etc
There's a bloke on turbosport that does them, will try find out for you
Big bump, but could anyone tell me how wide you can go without having to make your arches wider? as i have some SR steels that im looking to have banded. Cheers
Check out this website, they look quite good I think
http://www.alonzecustom.co.uk/steel-wheel-banding.php
at around ET49, I had alloys on my old one that fitted perfectly on 195/45/15's on a 6.5J, they did require arch lips folding up though.

Not much tbf, if you band your 5 and a half inch steels to 7" wide, you WILL need arch mods (unless you have a 5 door or 5 door saloon)

Is the extra door in the boot?
Wouldnt it make more sense to just go to Weller Wheels and get a set of off the shelf 7" wide steelies in XYZ PCD & offset for like £30 a rim???
meh sunday night typo, not "in" on what you posted 666 so :p:dlol;):)

John, 14" SR Steel's are 4.5" wide, so if i wanted a firm to make them 6.5" wide, would they be able to add it even on both side's or does it need to be to the out side only?

Hum never thought of that, and there only down the road to! Ace..

sorry but no reason at all why diy ones are any 'worse' than pro ones. even the diy chaps use jigs and measure things - and most use precut bands. i've seen diy sets that have less runout than they did before banding.
it's odd how peoples opinions are on topics like this, a lot wouldn't hesitate to do structural body welding but wheels are taboo - at the end of the day it's either right or it isn't.

most could do both sides if you wanted but it would cost more because you're effectively banding each wheel twice. normally wheels are only banded one side. you also have to bear in mind where you band them for the tyre beads (and the dip bit if that makes sense) as if you band them on the wrong part of the rim they can be a nightmare to get tyres on.

Humm, so basically it's not worth doing to a set of wheels if you only want them wider like i said, so your better off finding or fitting the wider wheels that Vaux do, like looking for cav commander one's etc.
Other wise it's only go to be say 1.5" added to the outer edge, and that don't seam worth doing, possibly better doing as that guy did in the link Southie posted, just mover the centers into a wider wheel rim in the position you want etc.
Scott
Scott they cut the wheel in 2, the extra can be added where you specify. Banded steels look cooler than wellers IMO :)
Cool im not worried about the rim being inside the arch as the law states nothing about rims only tyres being within the arch. but i dont want to go to have stupid looking stretched tyres either! John how wide are your rims?
You are aware that every inch you ad also drops the offset with 1 inch.
Im running 7,5j wide steelies, the offset is now -1.8
