c20xe mahle pistons

are the early c20xe mahle pistons forged and are they much stronger than the later pistons.

i bent a conrod a few weeks ago and i bought a full set of mahle pistons and rods, so should i fit the full set?

20xe early Mahle's were forged and stronger - however, later pistons were also made by Mahle, so its not just a case of looking for the logo etc..

86p on the underside are the forged early type piston iirc

i done a bit of research and philip is correct.

In the inside of every MAHLE - Piston you can find a casting number.
This number consists out of two numbers, then a letter and again two numbers.
From the letter you can find out of what kind the piston is:

D... Duotherm piston
F... Squeeze-cast piston
KB... Ferrotherm piston
L... Solid skirt piston
P... Forged piston
V... Auto-/Hydrothermik piston/
Auto-/Hydrothermatik piston

they are all over ebay about 5 sets up saying mahle but not looked to see if they have stated a code. worth a look though if it doesnt say the code theres no harm in asking. thanks for the info john and phill ill be after a set soon.

Apparently so. Ive seen XE pistons used loads times in engine builds so meh. Not much, £30 if your lucky.

EDIT: My mistake, used in ZVH/Zetec Turbo conversions lol
