When I was reading up on the track before going there myself a few years back, I read that there was dozens of deaths there every year. Which is all too apparant when you do go on it, with tourist buses on track at the same time as you and suicidal bikers. Its not a track to be taken likely, despite it being classed as a 'road'. Anyway RIP to those involved.

Gutted for them RIP, the adrenaline rush is what people are after, taking all the safety precautions is a must.

This is just my opinion, but i think to take any "standard" car onto any track you have to think more about what your doing, and take it with a reality check now an then, even our track prepped cage one's and some experience wont save your life if your doing something wrong.

It was the passenger in the rear, he was thrown clear and report is he did NOT have a seat belt on.

no seatbelt? im sorry but what kind of moron goes around the ring...with no seatbelt on.

Driver should have made sure (unless they took it off one the way round)

sad news,. but my sympathy goes more towards the driver.

totally agree mate, my wife rides horses and i have spent a fortune on hats, back protectors and the like, I told her about york drag racing death last week, I was behind him in the que. She went mental when she found i had no helmet, especially when i make sure she has the best kit, needless to say the helmet is on the way!!! Life is the most precious thing!! sorry to sound like dork!!!

According to my mate the car rolled 3 times launching a passenger out of it.

Sad times

However no seatbelt is shocking really, its hard to find sympathy when there's that much stupidity involved

3 up round the ring in what looks like a standard 172 ain't the best of ideas either imo

I'll stick to racing round there on xbox I think

I'd sooner go 6 up in a stock 172 than in a stock Nova ;)

Given the number of deaths (not at the ring because they are very cunning about how its declared) there and the number of people wanting to have a go after seeing it on topgear/consoles, its just a matter of time before its someone from our country/marque of car/car club etc :(

I went, didnt set any fast lap times but had a riot... job done

At the end of the day we all know motorsport/trackdays will ALWAYS be dangerous, no matter what. Its just a risk you have to take.
RIP to the guy, but wearing no belt... what more can you say.

Looking at a pic of the car, it doesnt look in that bad condition considering its been rolled at assumingly high speed.....

(oh and btw if i had the choice in a crash id rather be in a 10year old clio than a 20year old nova anyday)
afterall cages etc are not much use if they are poorly fitted or whatever.

The ring is a casualty of it's own success, everybody measures ability/performance by it now so everyone wants to go and prove they can go round it fast. I've got a mate at work who's driven it at least 200 times...(with his thumbs) so he'd kick my ass doing the real thing in his carina.

Shame people die trying. Rip

I've been racing since 2008, and in that time I have only ever been on track in a standard car once. I'm used to being on track with a snug racing seat and a 6-point harness, and you cannot underestimate the amount of extra control that gives a driver - to not be rolling and shifting in the seat whilst trying to drive quickly. A few weeks ago I drove a stock Fiat Barchetta (LHD) at Snetterton and found myself struggling to stay in the seat when I started to push it... No way in hell would I ever go out on a regular street without a seatbelt - let alone the Nurburgring!

Don't get me wrong, I know all the safety gear is expensive - and I am dreading the day the HANS device becomes mandatory across all motorsport (which it will) - but you wouldn't find me pushing hard in a standard car on a track, and ESPECIALLY if I had passengers. It's one thing to be silly with your own life, etc. I can fully understand that once the adrenaline gets going, you can forget the risks and the consequences. I mean, I don't drive round Cadwell Park to check out how close the walls are. But you have to have a degree of self-preservation, and a bit of respect for those around you and the environment you're putting yourself into. There really isn't much more to say.

Totally agreed on the point you make about the seat's/harnesses etc, i know from doing silverstone years ago at trax, i was wasting more energy to keep my self in the seat then i was driving the car.

And most of what you say is pretty much what i was getting at, but i just didn't put as good as you have.

A mate of ours is over there at the minute, apparently his friend stopped to help and tried to revive him but he died in his arms. Gotta feel for him aswell, it's awful!

That has to be the most awful feeling in the world, ive been there and wouldnt wish the heartache/second guessing what you did/didnt do, on anyone:cry:

Tragic loss/waste of life RIP, poor lad, he mightve been silly to not wear a belt, but he is still dead and that is a waste!!
