I thought my sr just didnt have that extra bit of speed so decided to investigate the vacums.
I won't go through it all and bore you rigid but, eventually it turned out that the linkage for the second throttle was off.
took it for a drive, hoped to feel a little difference......fantastic, you really feel the 2nd barrel open at 4K rpm then the revs just fly, that meant driving changing gears at 5500rpm, I cannot believe the difference with the second barrel working. just great fun!!!
However...
This is a repalcement carb, my original always stalled the car after hard acceleration, but it also never gave the revs of the 2nd barrel opening, i wonder if a vacuum earlier in the series has packed up, therefore not giving the vacuum for ignition advance and opening this 2nd barrel? Anyone got experience of this?
My exhaust was actually squeaking at low revs, investigation found a small bracket attached to the rear engine mount where the front exhaust twin pipe connects to the middle pipe. i moved this tiny bracket by hand so it doesn't rub the exhaust. It is clearly supposed to support the exhaust but I have never seen this on a nova before and the exhaust hasn't fallen off so far. Anyone else got this little bracket?
