you can get them to fax a copy of the certificate when you take out the policy, and i think you can just show the new keepers part if you have just bought the car
See if the owner is still insured and take him to the post office to get tax before you sign the logbook over. Thats what i did the other day

You can tax online, but you can then be fine for not displaying a validtax disc... This is a prehistoric rule, but still valid.
Best to get the old keeper to tax if they still have a valid insurance policy.

There is actually a grace period, it's well buried on govt. websites but it is there somewhere.

Grace periord only works if the tax has just expired and allows 5 days at the start of the month.
Wont work here.
emailed insurance cert and DVLA office would be the only way then.
Insure prior to purchase, email/print insurance cert, buy car, take new keepers supplement/MOT/Ins cert to post office and get tax?

thinking on, Tom taxed one of his cars using an emailed document and showing it on his iphone, guy at the post office was more than happy to accept it was insured

I always found it was always the post offices that were worst for not accepting that, but it's possible it's filtered down from the DVLA accepting them. Even though they normally have posters up saying they don't lol
