What cooler is best for a 20XE, thinking track use? Mocal 13 row?

There's lots of union types on a Mocal cooler, which is the one to go for?

Where's best to mount it, thinking behind the numberplate so it can be hidden 99% of the time and open on track?

Cheers!

Dude run a standard one IMO, and just slap it anywhere the air can pass over/through it, common you've seen it all before! lol

Just make/use a conventional "coiled pipe" type cooler. Ifinitely cheaper & immensly easier to fit & position.

Scott never had any dealings with them so get a bit confused over hose sizes, unions, etc. All the standard ones I've seen have looked manky as anything so would prefer new, they don't look too expensive

Mike, whassat?

Mike, whassat?

Used for power steering, brake, oil & gear oil coolers on newer cars. Just replaces the traditional raditor type cooler with one continuos piece of coiled up pipe work similiar to this one:

But a lot more coil/s & length of pipework.

Hell, if that type of cooler is good enough for Citroen C2 R2 Maxi works cars then its certainly good enough for a non competitive track car.

Hmm interesting not seen those before, I'll look into it.

Also another Q - what temp does the stat in the oil filter sandwich plate open to allow it to cool?

Slipped my cooler next to rad on the offside.
Seems as good a place as any & tucked out of the way & gets plenty of air through the grille.

Looks a good place for it Martin :) Route the lines up the inner wing or keep them in the bay? (Not yet measured it up to see where they can go!)

my std cooler came of a mk3 astra gsi and fits the nova well

Just go from sandwich plate direct to cooler, dont go inside wings or anything.

If you look under a Nova wing you will see what i mean. Not far enough away to faff about routing hoses!

Yeah just go up the inside of the chassis leg, but IMO try re paint a standard cooler set up and try it out, as you can get them with everything you need for less then £20 and if it was that **** why would vauxhall use them? Ive never had any issues with oil temps.
But last time i did my sump etc i took the stat out of the S/W plate so it's always flowing through it, but then I'm running thick race oil now.

Original XE coolers will be 15+ years old now tho, so unless there's a modern Vauxhall I can take it off I'd prefer a new aftermarket one!

I cleaned out a high milage one fine enough, soaked it in diesel for a few days then blasted it all off, came up good enough. Then paint it if your proper gay,not like its seen.
15 years old??? what do you think will have happened to it?! lol

Well 15 year old radiators look crap so figured they'd be the same?

Oil coolers are common as you like on modern cars anyway so theres plenty to take your pick from.

Been browsing for coolers today, they don't seem expensive new so not gonna bother looking for one second hand!

Mocal 10 row 235mm wide looks up to the job, and looks like it measures up near standard size too? http://www.burtonpower.com/parts-by-category/cooling-system/oil-coolers/mococ5103-8.html

So that with 1/2BSP fittings, male-male M16x1.5 to 1/2BSP fittings for the sandwich plate, then some custom hose and job jobbed?
