Jamaica yellow mk1 SR

Was thinking earlier they must be one of the rarest nova's going

Don't think anyone actually owns one from here

Maybe there wasn't many sold in the first place, thoughts ?

Any owners out there ? lol

Or anyone know of any still alive ?

If yes fire some pics up :d

I know of one but its rotten :( Shame because the rest of it, ie interior was mint.
It had some welding done but was just patched and looked quite bad.

I come close! Technically, on paper...

Daftjohn used to have an XE converted one.

i had one but it was completly rotten.I had everything i could off it though. It was so bad when i took the snowplough off half the wings came with it. The lad i bought it off said he had two small plates welded under the seats. When i got it home i tookthe carpet up it was half the size of the seat well and only tacked on the three sides.

I'm sure there is one good condition one on here, it could be a rep though but I could swear there is one.

I pestered a women who lived in a little village i use to work in to sell me hers, i asked back in 2003 if she ever wanted to sell it let me know, i kept asking for about 2 years, she never did sell it, I'm sure she's probably give it to one of her gran kids and now it's dead, but in 2003 it was on 29.000 miles and mint garaged car...

Ive always wanted one, but there really hard to find now, as you say maybe they just didn't do many from the factory in that color etc, it's the only reason i bought the 1.2L as how many of them is there in Jamaica yellow full stop be it SR or 1.2L??

I think if i can get all the right parts i will make a high standard Rep SR from the 1.2 in a year or so, what you guys think??

Dunno Scott, being a 'rare' colour makes me wonder if it would be better off in original condition.

As for SR's... Doesn't Lynd have one? Or is that a rep

...anyways I always preferred mustard :p lol

Nice to see but I wouldn't have one,

I've had one since Feb 2009.

The first pic is the day after I got her, she has 80k on the clock with a fair whack of history, the original owners grandson has been in touch to say he'll send me the original service book - so nice bit of history there.

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/ss86/DAFTJOHN/rhsnova.jpg

A few weeks after I got it, I got new white speedlines, snowplough and the arches repaired as they weren't the best - also at this time the boot floor got a little rust cut out, re-selaed and painted.

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/ss86/DAFTJOHN/lhsfin.jpg

I ran for a month or so and added Gaz coilovers on the front and gaz shocks on the back, also replaced the gear linkage, new timing belt and water pump and had the car in a rolling road and it produced 159bhp with nice torque. It's an early costcast engine that pulls very well.

The paint above was on the back of the car only, and there was a few flakes near the windows etc, so I got a replacement spoiler, new copy vinyl, new radiator, new heater matrix, new headlights, new GSI servo, HH plating kit and it's getting stitch welded and full re-paint.

the car should be ready in the next 2 to 3 weeks, it will have anthracite colour wheels and not the white.

At some point I think I will pop an SR engine back into and get it as standard as possible, but it will always have the mods done for the XE....but that's a few years away - the car will be 29 in march 2012!!!

Was the colour I wanted when I was looking for an SR, but ended up with a white one:roll:

Would think Jamacain yellow SR is the rarest, all early brown check SR are rare, would reckon there are more Sports than early SR's:eek:

23-08-11, 09:56 AM
Royston, in 1996 I had to bin all my brown trim from my 1984 SR as nobody wanted it :(

It makes me sick to think of it now,

But the ID lives on lol I just need a new shell to put it on
( maybe a nice brown donor shell )

scott.parker
23-08-11, 10:13 AM
Whats the chance of finding some brown check interior now, i might see if it's worth getting some SR seats and get them re trimmed in copy material for less then what it would cost to buy the seats etc if i DO a rep..

Tempted to, or do you all think that the cars better off staying as standard as possible, as Ive got early sport/sr bumper front plow and early sr 6 dials sat in my shed...

Scott, I'm always looking for spare interior, no doubt there will be the brown interior in sheds and even cars - think of all the original 15k/25k mile novas that come up for sale....so there must still be little early SR Gems around.

I may go to a trimming company and see if they can quote for it. As for making yours an SR rep, sure I'd do it - you could run it as a rep for years and then change back to a base model when they really have went up in value:thumb:

bazil
23-08-11, 10:18 AM
If you don't do it I'll buy your bits lol

IMHO standard cars will be worth more than any replica,

I'm planing on doing a rep of my Breg sr in a few years, But it'll be hard to get a good shell by then

23-08-11, 10:27 AM
Humm.. Well what i might do then is, find some old SR/SRi interior find a trimmers to re trim it in replica stuff, so that way i have my original seats still, then just get the plow and SR/Sport rear painted in U-pol mid gray fit them and the 6 dials an leave it at that..

Basically a 1.2L with optional bits fitted lol

If you went as far as getting trim made why not get a second early tailgate, paint it decal it spoiler and job done, the only semi permanent thing would be the grey door bottom decals,

Your car already has the proper B post trim and window surrounds,

Yeah Retro Power got a run of the Blitz material done, but it wasn't cheap! £300 for just enough to do the middle sections of front and rear seats, people looking to spend that money will be hard to find.

Definitely, I certainly wouldn't spend that much on some seat re-trim.

scott.parker
23-08-11, 02:21 PM
I would say if you got some sr seats any old one's rainbow one say for free or very cheep, and then you asked a re-trimmers to do it your looking at £300-500 for it, so if you get the cloth re made then get a trimer's to do it would maybe work out the same sort of price etc, not sure to be honest were all just guessing!

I know there's a member on here who might want the work trimming, if they can do it?

amggsi
23-08-11, 03:15 PM
Definitely, I certainly wouldn't spend that much on some seat re-trim.

And to get it at that price there was a 10 person minimum order as well.

Add the trim for the sides etc and the actual cost of getting them trimmed, the final price of an interior will be kicking the **** of £1k............. (over £500 anyway!!)

About 8 years ago there was a Jamaican yellow 1.3 SR rotting away in a residential car park behind my mates house. It was on a C plate and even had headlight washers!! I may have liberated/recycled a few spares from it back in the day. But back then nobody wanted mk1 stuff, dashes, bumpers, interiors, etc. The fashionable thing to do was to 'mk2 it'....!
I suppose the car just got crushed with no mercy in the end. These days no old novas get left sitting about since scrap prices and have been high.

We've got a 1.3ltr C reg Jamaica yellow Nova but it's not an SR. Whilst trying to find the interior and being really put off by price/condition of them, I came across some early MK2 Cavalier SRi seats and we decided to fit those. Also put the GMS bodystylers lower front valance on in lieu of a snowplough. Hmm, whoever ends up buying that will have a smart little motor :)

i had one back in 2001. C180LJN. ill never forgive myself for getting rid of it. it was a rep though. it was a jamaica yellow 1.2l 3 door with a factory tilt/slide sunroof. 1.3sr lump in it & snowplough bumper on. going by the direct gov site it didnt last long after i got rid. i miss it loads though.
