Hey all I'm Sean, some may recognise my corsa project.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v206/vinny6/30052010118.jpg
Here is my new project thread and the new car which shall ruin my bank balance and my sanity!!!!
Enjoy reading if you can be
The car is a 1984 1.2 8v Vauxhall Nova saloon 2 door Model with 46k on the clocks.
The car was purchased brand new at Twells of Billinghay on the first of august 1984, the car stayed with its original owner up until a few years ago until he passed away. The car was passed along the original owners daughter and put away in a barn for 4 years where a nice little mouse found a warm home and a chance to chew the rear seats. After talks with people the daughter was told it was worthless and was due to scrap the car, but a lad called james found out and bought it off her for £200 fine english pounds, he has had teh car since december 2010 and hasnt done much with it apart from look after it and give it any nessecary work. I found out about the car, which wasnt actually for sale according to the owner, told him how interested i was and how much i would look after it if one day i was lucky enough to own it. James eventually offered the car to me for £600. So after selling my alloys and mirrors from the Corsa project i foned him to tell him i was ready to buy the car. My v5 came through the other day so im and one very excited owner of a car ive wanted for a long time.
The car has such features as original tax disc holder, original dealer stickers in window, all original keys from 1984, original tax disc from 1985 from when the car was purschaed brand new, Original Number plates with twells dealership on them.
The car has its original owners booklet with it, which has the owners manual and the original Radio Manuals, still absolutely mint, Inside the owners booklet is a whole host of MOT slips, tax discs and Service Sheets dating back to the early 1980s.
I was lucky enough to be able to have a good chat with the previous owner about the car before i bought it and asked as many questions as possible and had a chance to check over the shell, lets be honest, novas are well known for being little rot boxes. I was happy to find that all the problem areas were solid, Sills have been replaced but theyre not good enough so ill redo those.
The car is from what I can see almost identical to calamity josh's but just blue. A
ny idea what the name of the paint is anyone?
Anyway ill let you all see what youve been waiting for! PHOTOS! Enjoy. Ive got plenty more to tell you about, and there will be lots going on once the project gets going.

Should hopefully have a new rear bench soon too, as mine isnt great and i want the interior mint.

No pics, my ex deleted them all... there's one article with the old blue shed in it at Trax. Check my thread...
Original it was simular to the one on the cover of your (non-Haynes)manual. Hated the colour back then because it wasn't bright enough, but I really love it now because it's so original.

Nearly two years since I bought this and it's still not seen the pleasure of England's Tarmac but that will soon change.
I am best man for a mate in July and to say Thankyou he has paid for me to go to pvs and I couldn't really go and not take the nova so it's now a rush to sort the niggles out and get it ready for the show.
My girlfriend kindly bought me a canvas of the loon for Xmas.

Plan for pvs is to get it on some cav expressions, plenty if lows and a few choice modifications. Oh yeah and it needs an mot, tax and insurance.

Lower more.
Few other little details.
Once pvs is out the way ill out wheels up for sale then look for nicer wider wheels. Get bodywork sorted. And lots more.
chrisd1986
14-04-13, 11:13 PM
how much is it lowered at the moment?
Looks nice. Keep it original imo, she will be 30 years old in the next year! I like the front grill!
karisma
15-04-13, 08:38 PM
Front has had helper springs removed and lowered until the springs stay seated but it can go down a fair bit more.
Back is just 60mm springs.
chrisd1986
15-04-13, 08:50 PM
i can only go 60mm lower on mine because of the speed bumps that go down to my garage :-(

Well. Yeah night before pvs there was a family emergency which resulted in me cancelling. Gutted but family before cars.
Fitted the cav expressions and yeah it looked cool but was no where near the look I was after so less than a week before pvs I set out to find new wheels.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v206/vinny6/null-14.jpg
On Thursday 3 days before pvs I set off to Surrey to buy some interesting wheels. Girlfriends car broke down on the m25. Upon arrival the seller said the offset was et13 but somewhere along the line I thought it was et33. This meant the wheels would stick out 20mm more than I hoped.
For now here is a sneaky pic of the wheels.

Since fitting the new wheels the plan is to get low! Really low! Noticed I was on the bumpstops on the front already so that needed sorting.
In the next couple of weeks I'm going to be modifying the coilovers to get as low as possible. Planning on modifying the rear beam too so that I can go lower but still maintain some travel.
Bit hard to see but this is how the front sat before - on the bumpstops.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v206/vinny6/null-39.jpg
Bumpstops and gaiters removed. Gaiter keeps making a weird noise when driving so its staying out.

I finally had chance to wash and polish the car properly as i havent since owning the car.
The pictures are very similar to some previously in the thread but I wanted to do comparison shots as I've dropped the back end lower. This is how it will stay until I can afford skinnier tyres as its the tyres stopping me from going lower!

Another bit of OCD. When I fitted the irmscher rocker cover I fitted brand new Allen headed bolts but they looked out of place on the small block so I sourced some standard style hex bolts and set to make them shiney.
Same bolts. Before and after - lettering filed off and then polished, could do with polishing more as there's a few sanding marks left.

Since having the loon all it's ever been treated to is a wash and a polish if its lucky. Had a bit of spare time at the weekend ao treated it to a cleaning session.
Decided to get the paint as good as I can without a machine polisher as I don't have one. This consisted of clay bar, polish, and a coat of autoglym hd wax.
Here's a few photos to show the results, not amazing but considering its 29 years old she comes up pretty well. Main thing is after a coat of wax it's now protected.

Original it was simular to the one on the cover of your (non-Haynes)manual. Hated the colour back then because it wasn't bright enough, but I really love it now because it's so original.

Always loved my all red rears as they're kinda rare but also hated them as they're not symmetrical. The drivers side has a lighter section for the reverse and I don't have the reverse wired up as I'm doing a wire tuck. So I set out to tint it red and make them match. Details count
