View Full Version : Glasses - laser eye treatment
Had my 3 yearly medical at work, failed the eye test
Went to Specsavers to have official eye test, lady said yep you need glasses for reading, driving and tv
So, £175 later I got some glasses, fcuks knows how I didn't notice my eyes were that bad lol it's like a new world with them on lol
BUT I really really really can't get on with them, can't get used to them on my head, spins me out big time when I take them off, generally feel like smashing them lol probably would if not for the price lol
Now considering laser eye treatment, so just asking around to get people views/experiences on it tbh
Anyone on here had to start wearing glasses lately ? Are you feeling like me ? lol
Anyone had laser eye treatment ? Good or bad ? Recommended company ?
Any thoughts/ideas/experiences would be a great help

Considered contacts at all? Not as uncomfortable as you'd image, you get used to poking yourself in the eye to put them in and there are brands around now that if you don't have dry eyes you can wear almost full time/sleep in so it's not such a ballache with the whole cleansing routine every night. I use 30 day continuous wear ones, but can't sleep in them for more than 2 nights or so as I have fairly dry eyes (its either that or keep splashing myself in the eyes with drops which is hassle lol)
I should wear glasses for the same reasons as you but also hate them can't bear them on me at all
My brother had lazer treatment last year and after two days was perfect had no pain no probs at all just in and out in a couple of hours
I wore glasses for most of my school life and then I went for a laser consultation about a year ago. it was quite good but in the end, I decided to get contacts. There were just a couple of people at work who had bad experiences of laser surgery and that was 2 people too many for me. its my eyes after all!!
I love wearing my contact lenses. bit of a faff cleaning them etc and I pay £15 for the lenses and solutions but I never wear my glasses anymore and its so much easier. I remember the 1st day I tried the contacts, i felt like I was walking in a fish bowl and felt really sick but that passed really quickly.
I have the same problem regarding wearing them. They annoy the hell out of me and I don't have the patience to get past the headaches they give me. I tried contacts but couldn't for the life of me get them in lol I've never really looked into laser treatement before. Going by the prices i've seen it puts me off a tad. But if it works then I guess it's worth it. How long have you had the glasses now? Maybe try giving them a week, wear them for an hour or two at a time and gradually increase the amount of time you're wearing them and see how you get on.
i would have thought your company would have helped out with the cost. i know i get free eye tests and £50 towards glasses. but i do use a computer screen lots.
I wear glasses at work and contacts ( daily disposable ) socially, I think I'd freak out at laser treatment but I'm unsuitable for it anyway, my mate had it done and 1 eye is better than the other lol he has to go back for a second treatment but he says it's worth the hassle,
my sister in law had laser surgery... i personally don't think her eyesight is much better, and a bloke who drove a digger for us for a very short time had it too. he appeared to have really crap peripheral vision, as he kept hitting things that he claimed weren't actually there... hence we didn't employ him for very long..
My major concern with laser eye surgery was the long term effects. It hasnt been around long enough to know what it will do to your eyes when you get older. if it will degrade them quicker etc... I just didnt want to mess about with my eyesight. Contacts and glasses are a faff but not permanent.
Thanks for the replies everyone
My concerns about laser treatment seem to be the same as Hayley's, no one knows the long term stuff
I've had my glasses 3 weeks but my annoyance is getting worse tbh
I have considered contact lenses but as I suffer with itchy eyes from hay fever quite bad I did think they might not be suitable ???
I would say, go for a free laser consultation. I found it very informative. They are obviously trying to sell it to you but they also give out quite good info I found.

I wear glasses all the time but cannot touch my eyes so contacts are out of the question for me.
My boss had laser treatment and pardon the pun he never looked back, he always looks odd though as I'm use to him wearing gig lamps.
Bad hayfever might put a damper on it, I don't suffer with it myself so wouldn't know.
I've always avoided laser treatment due to no info on long term effects.
Contact lenses are definite win though; I've been wearing them for 13 years now and my mum's had them for 45-odd years with no issues. There's a trick to getting them in if you don't like touching your eyes too.
A guy I work with has bad hayfever, he alternates between glasses and contacts. I can relate to the aversion to glasses thing though - I can't wear them either, they make me feel sick. I prefer going au naturel to specs!
After wearing contacts which give you proper peripheral vision etc, I found wearing glasses gave me a headache after a short time. It was mainly the way things 'accelerate' into view as you turn your head, due to the lenses only covering some of your vision. I need to sort out an eye test so I can go back to them actually lol
Given MOST peoples laser surgery costs wind up being near £3K I'd have to consider long and hard that little investment into a deteriorating part of ones body. Some of the 'better' suppliers will guarantee your vision remains where they set it back to, but even so thats pretty pants.
Worn glasses for ohhhh 14 years or so now, Only tried contacts 18 months ago.... would take me upto 60 mins to get the lenses in and out lol, now I can pop them in while in the car at a service station in seconds lol. I also know how to eek almost 30-40+ days wear from 14 day contacts, so I have managed to get 18 months wear from paying for 6 months :) Granted the longer wears only really work in winter as summer just fecks my eyes up.
Did you get frameless glasses? if not then perhaps try frameless ones as they intrude so little into life that you actually wind up damaging them a lot through not knowing they are there and knocking them off yer face lol

after seeing how they do laser eye surgery, i would rather go blind...
contacts, or a monocle...
I've seen Optimax laser surgery for £400ish per eye tho ?
The glasses I got are frameless round the lens but have quite think arms, because I've never had them before I had no idea about how they would feel, look, effect vision etc
Also not having alot of patience with some stuff don't help lol
Think I might consider trying contacts, I take it these are easily avalible ? Back to Specsavers ?

I used to have contact lenses years ago but after getting sick of putting them in and taking them out they hit the bin and now if I can't read something I go closer lol I'd rather not blow a few g's on my eyes

The key word you're looking for is "Starting from" there, £400ish gonna be a base line, for a very simple op on a mildly near/long sighted person with no other vision defects.
On the contacts the best/cheapest way is often to pay for your contact lens check up etc but buy the lenses off the net.

An ex gf of mine had laser eye surgery done. She said she found the procedure very uncomfortable and had agonising pain in both eyes for 1 or 2 days afterwards, but this could have been her being a drama queen c*nt. Her vision was spot on though. lol

I have wore glasses for a years now (not all day just internet, reading etc) and my eyes aren't great. I never had these sort of issues until I got my most recent specs. I went back with them and they adjusted the perscription and while it still wasn't totally gone I got used to it pretty quickly. This was specsavers who I would say stay away from. I know other people that had issues with them.
I bloke I used to work with had laser eye treatment back in 2004, as far as I know as is still fine & hes never looked back on it (no pun intended).

Yeam im sure they do have to pay for the eye test amd contribute or pay for standard glasses if you use a screen regularily, VDA regs.
I wear contacts much prefer them over glasses, ive been wearing them for about 10 years and never 'looked' back lol

I'd be careful with that though, as it can sometimes take a bit of working to get the fitment/prescription right. Its much easier to pop in and out of a shop to get them fixed up rather than have them sent out to you.

Yeah what I did, or planned to and never actually did because I was so stupidly busy with uni etc it was easier just to pay them lol Was to get prescription and fitment etc perfect and then order them.
Where's the best place to get contacts from then ?
I can watch tv with glasses but I don't find driving with glasses on that safe tbh
lazer eye treatment ftw, i had glasses for 24 hours, thought i looked like an idiot with them on and smashed them, had surgery, how i have above avarage vision in an eye test. id go for it imo if they think it works.

you NEED to get the contacts 'setup' by an optician (I used Vision Express, pricey but the service was great and I sacked them off as I only wear contacts at the weekends/rainy days so 14 day lenses could last me months at a time lol), then think about going solo with online lenses
ive always wondered about laser eye treatment , since i am very nearly blind in my left eye , can see blur shapes and colours but only if i close my good eye ,
good eye is perfect though , but i can't see anything 3d etc
always wondered if the laser treatment could do anything for me ? but also scared that since i was born like this then , my co-ordination and balance etc has been learnt this way , i could be fooked if i had two eyes al of a sudden

Could also go the other way and all of sudden you're an absolute hero at everything lol
