View Full Version : Cheap cheap fun winter motor suggestions please
Hi hopefully the Vx is going into hibernation for winter soon so i need a little banger to drive to work and back but finding it difficult to pick one.
The only requirements are:
That it's fun to drive and handles pretty well for what it is.
Cheap to run (so I have more money to upgrade the Vx while it's off the road:d )
Reliable.
Easy to sell back on.
Oh and to be cheap!£500-600 ideally.
The only cars that I can think of at the minute are the 106 1.5D and a 306 1.9td
Any other suggestions?Or people with experience of these?

Avoid vw
because by the end of winter you will want to hang yourself through mind numbing driving

have you ever been in a TUNED TD?
oh yes lol
I got me a caddy for the same job last year and still have it and plan keeping it for this winter cheap to run to runs on fresh air
Same could be said of all other cars mentioned here tbf Rich lol
Cant disagree with that! Just have a hate for golfs/vw and skodas, so dull lol Also looking for a winter car, got about 1k to spend
I'm sorry but you are all wrong lol , cheap winter fun starts with the old skool subaru justy's. Nigh on bombproof and go absolutely everywhere when the going gets tough and the white stuff builds up
LOL was going to say, you want something small and 4wd like a Justy, Fourtrack or Panda lol

I bought a VTS for winter last year for £650 with tax and mot. Was really tidy and easily sold it on for a profit at the end of winter. Something light, fwd and quick is what is needed for fun times in the snow imo. Also something that can get you your money back by breaking it is handy if you bump it.
ive just got a cheap ass vectra lol , not a bad car actually , lol

Sao VTS is a good option imo, just not exactly cheap to run though. Corsa TD is best shout so far though.
Metro GTi maybe? Had one a few years ago, great fun to drive.

Mk1 Mr2
Beat me to it, was just about to suggest an Mk1 or 2 MR2.
Hmm I don't really fancy a RWD car for winter(I would of just kept Vx on road if I wanted one) and not that keen on MR2's.
How hard is it to find a cheap thrashable fun motor!?lol I have been on the lookout for a 106 xsi but they seem to be like rocking horse ****!
I'm with Dan here, Justy or Jimny for the homoerotic 4wd win.
Or put snow tyres on the VX with 15" rims :) I'd have done that for this winter if mine wasnt killed by a 2 wheeld coont

What about an old micra? Cheap as chips and run for ever
The little justys and jimnys seem to command good money (well in my cheap banger eyes they do!lol)
If I don't get this garage for storage I will be using Vx lol
If I get a little micra I doubt I'd be able to shake of the Mohammed nickname that I'd be given at work lol
