In a word, no - if it's a WR, then the 2nd gear is 1.96:1, the CR has a 2.14:1 - I'm guessing you have the 3.74 final drive.
Can you use the straight cut Quaife internals?
Or....
Use a lower diff - 3.94:1, or 4.29 from a F13 - so you use 3rd.
Do your sums and play diff ratios to save your pennies.
You wont get a longer gear thatn a 1.96 (on a std cluster). You could try a 3.55 if you can get one, but I would be tempted to fit bigger tyres if you are hitting the rev limiter.

But Gary, why muck about with tyres? The better solution would be using a CR box, 4.29 (or 4.53) diff, and then use 3rd gear surely?
It's just a case of putting the ratios into a spreadsheet, factor in the rolling circumference of the tyre, revs, time, and you can soon have a chart to cross reference them all and work out your best gear vs diff vs tyre combination. I had one for my ASCAR somewhere that even factored in tyre pressure and it's effect on rolling radius to see what difference it made to top speed, and lap time around Rockingham. 5psi made something like 3mph difference (with a top end of around 178 reached on the run to Turn 4).
Your aim should be to get a good launch out of the start with 1st, then straight into 3rd, nail it and off you go. He has the 1.6, so he has more grunt to play with than an asthmatic Class 2 car, and that's the way I'd play it. It's not like running an old Class2 Escort (SN59 R.I.P.), where you aimed to get it off the line, and into 2nd quick, then keep it nailed until the chequered flag!! (he who lifts is last!)
Well it sounds like he is running stock hatch and most will be running the STD box so I d look at the tyres he is running and see what all the other vauxhalls are running. Class 2's normally rev out in 1st nowadays sounds different to your day!
