right folks, we have been following colins hill climb car, and project thread...

i was messing about on the web & found the funky 1.0 8v chevy corsa brazil engine that has been turboed up with startling results in brazil..

now, i've been wondering about the cost of one of these engines including shipping, and then did some sums..

if i get a 1.2 spi block, and a 1200st crank, it works out at 993cc. the same as the brazillian engine.

getting rods to fit would be a challenge, as the 1200st uses 20mm gudgeon pins, and the spi uses 18mm ones, but a trusty engineer might be available to knock something up unless i keep the spi pistons & rods & have crazy low cr to run the turbo with..

so here are some questions:

1. is the x12xe engine likely to have a compatible head????
2. is the 1.2xe head worth even looking at?
3. is there a factory ecu on a baby xe that will accept a turbo?
4. should i just stick a decent e16se head on, like colin's.

the reason i am looking at this is that the thought of a 1.0 engine, albeit a turbo, staying in a nova would be quite novel, and i think the concept of making such a bitsa & getting it to work would be a laugh, as most of the bits are available for sweeties.
and cheap road tax will help a touch.

i will appreciate your comments as long as they are positive...

1.0 turbo ftw

Well an E16 head would allow use of the mpi manifold and ecu, microswitch to sence the boost to alter fuel ( or fire a 5th injector )
Still gives you cheap and easily found parts.

i already own enough of the e16se top end bits.

Well that's the simple answer then,
Now a thought, if the E16 head fits then in theory the C16XE head could fit, how to work out the timing belt is a different matter,

( my basis of it fitting is based on compression de-comp plates for E16SE and C16XE being the same, although in reality it may not be that simple )

the original baby c16xe was pretty much built round the c16se, so fitment is ok, but the main issue, is valve cutouts in the block with a e16se head, as in colins build.. so the choice will be either a 1.2spi head, with ports ground out a lot, or the 1.2 16v, x12xe engine, which i have absolutely no experience of.... the 1200st crank sorts out the need for a spacer plate...

has anyone got knowledge of the x12xe that they can pass on to me?

Yes its a **** engine, chain driven IIRC. My 1.2 SPi Nova used to leave my mates 1.2 16v Corsa standing. The valves are too small to get any real gains, although the use of a turbo might overcome this but then again if it is chain driven its another obstacle to get past.

I would be looking at an 8 valve head, hard to say which one without a bit of maths to work out CRs but the MPi head will give good compatibility with a suitable inlet as mentioned above.

when you bear in mind that the 1.2 head would be flowing less for the 1.0, than in its std application, the 1.2 head might be ok.... goes off to check valve sizes.....

this sounds like it could be an awsome bit of fun, why not use a 1300 head

Surely to get the best out of it bhp wise your going to have to get some form of aftermarket engine management ?

What power is the chevy 1.0 putting out then ?

the chevy runs 12:1 cr on corn ethanol, & gets about 76hp non turbo, but the one on youtube has 245hp...

i was hoping for something a bit more manageable... & i was even thinking about checking a fiat uno turbo efi out, as they were jetronic..

as for the ecu, i'm still on the hunt for something either for my 1.6 or for this (long term) idea.

its all about valve to bore clearance.
