IMO no. The XE is degined to run at the temp that the standard stat operates at. Having a cool running stat will mean it won't get up to its optimal operating temp and in winter it'll have more trouble doing that and may even struggle giving you warm air for heating. I say they are pointless.

If you live in say South Africa then yes, in the UK definitely not needed as the Tekster mentioned ;)
