I work at a local car dealers/garage and we have a very elderly frail gentleman with a 52 plate Micra with less than 8000 miles on it, but in this less-than-1000-miles-a-year, he has managed to not leave a straight panel on it (and i mean they are wrecked). It has three colours of paint down one side from cars he's hit and is completely unaware. Ive even asked him. He just said 'Oh theyve hit me'.
I have witnessed him crawling along the road at 15mph on the grass verge, not able to park in a space bigger than Spain and has absolutely no control over the car at all.
But yet its his only mode of transport. I feel very sorry for the guy, but I feel for his safety and moreso the safety of others.
Would you shop him in?
Opinions......
In a word yes, the poor guy clearly doesnt realise that he is a danger to himself and others, he needs to be being looked after and such and is probably wanting to hang on to his independance, but ask yourself how you would feel if you dont report him and in a few weeks it turns out he has mown some poor small child down and killed them, or crashed into something big like a wagon, after going down the wrong side of the road or motorway and killed himself?

agreed
Personally yes I would, way I see it, it wont be long before he kills himself, and maybe others around him.
He'd be entitled to a bus pass, so he'd have to start using public transport. You'd be livid if he was to hit you one day and possibly kill someone in your car, as anyone else would be.
Imagine if you read your local paper and saw that he had killed someone and you decided not to report him, you'd have a mahusive amount of guilt over your head lol

Its only a tough call because youre clearly a caring person, but you know youre going to be doing the right thing though bud!
Too late, Spud was in before me, ****e iPhones....
Too late, Spud was in before me, ****e iFAIL....
Edited for accuracy:p
I'd shop him without a second thought! He's obviously not safe to be on the road and as said, what if he kills someone, what if its a member of your family? Do it.
:( must spread before giving to Spudly again, but very true comment. And this auto correct almost got me in major trouble!

agree with spud!
80% of accidents are caused by old people in one way or another either because they drive too slow with their faces against the windscreen and people cant wait to get past them doing 30 in a 60 or they're so oblivious to everything else on the road, they're more dangerous than bin laden piloting a plane!
i would also feel sorry for him in that he has no other form of transport but like others have said, they get discounted public transport (and fish and chips lol) and hes obviously at the point where he should be in a home anyway or at least have a carer!

Yes without a second thought.
The way to look at it is "You have to be cruel to be kind"
do you know or can you find out if he has any sons or daughters that live nearby, and then broach the subject with them.....
in the olden days, my great aunt ran into a huge number of cars in her moggie minor, and eventually the local bobbie called round & had a nice chat with her over a cup of tea about giving up driving, and he even managed to find someone to buy her car off her.
if you called the cops in these days, they'd probably put his door thru with a sledgehammer & have a stinger across his driveway, with a tv crew on hand to make it look like they are doing exciting stuff... but getting someone he knows to talk him round might just be a bit kinder.
i'm with mowgli, i wouldnt shop him straight out, i'd try talking to a relative/friend/neighbour first.
