Ive been reading that you have to change the flywheel bolts if you remove the flywheel as the threads stretch.

Is this critical and does anyone actually do it? Everytime ive done a flywheel change ive just thread locked them and torqued them up correctly?

To my knowledge flywheel bolts are not normally stretch bolts (talking generally) and I've rebuilt a few engines...... but maybe engine specific.

Obviously you haven't stated which engine, but genuine replacement bolts shouldn't cost the earth and would give piece of mind.

My best advice is to invest in a good quality torque wrench to ensure bolts are not overtightened.

I stretched some conrod bolts on my Range Rover V8 a few years ago, luckily as I was doing it my internal torque meter in my head was telling me something wasn't right!!!! So realised and replaced the bolts
