View Full Version : Richi c20xe track sea lag
thought I would start a project thread on hazel,
I know a few people have owned eel on here and most got rid because of her temperamental starting and poor reliability so hopefully i can change its fortunes lol.
The cars manily used as a track car and the odd weekends so not a day to day car.
first steps are to sort out ALL the faults these include:-
not starting
changed crank shaft sensor, cts, and changed a few burnt out cables with no joy then changed dizzy rotar arm and plugs
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r93/ritchiehulse1986/DSCF3163.jpg
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r93/ritchiehulse1986/DSCF3453.jpg
and joy was starting again but not every time, after lots of messing about figured that the batteries ccs was way to low for the engine, admittedly got way to excited and bought a ma-huge battery
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r93/ritchiehulse1986/DSCF3449.jpg
and now 60% of the time it works everytime :)
onto the next problem water gauge not working
new gauge, wire thermostate and wts and bingo
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r93/ritchiehulse1986/DSCF3161.jpg
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r93/ritchiehulse1986/DSCF3455.jpg
next job crappy idle all over the place
new cts and icv
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r93/ritchiehulse1986/DSCF3473.jpg
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r93/ritchiehulse1986/DSCF3375.jpg
now where getting somewhere!!!!!!!!
treated hazel to some bling today with a chrome heat shield
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r93/ritchiehulse1986/DSCF3451.jpg
also seen as i plan on doing a few mods to up the bhp for the track thought i would get it rolling roaded before i start so i can see what improvemnents i have made to the car
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r93/ritchiehulse1986/DSCF3342.jpg
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r93/ritchiehulse1986/DSCF3356.jpg

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r93/ritchiehulse1986/scan0002.jpg
came in at 133bhp which was a little dissopointing but showed up some faults with the nova so off to riggy who did a compression tested which happily came back okay, but did find that my car was a retard:cry:
decided not to do it myself so took it to a garage as its vernier pulleys and re-profiled cam so didn't fancy messing up, now no longer over fuelling and alls good
quicky update
got a little free time and been noticing alot of rust appearing on the nova so time to investigate
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r93/ritchiehulse1986/DSCF3315.jpg
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r93/ritchiehulse1986/DSCF3317.jpg
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r93/ritchiehulse1986/DSCF3327.jpg
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r93/ritchiehulse1986/DSCF3329.jpg
annoyingly though i have lost my lock-up due to moving house so the bodywork is on hold until i move into the new garage, looks like some new wings are needed and new door
has it still got my moped rad inside heater??? nice to see its still going, looks like the rust has eaten it alot over the last 5 years from when i had it.
haha yes it has little computer fan so it keeps my feet warm lol
Rightio its winter time and i have some time off work so hopefully should see some progress on the nova
going to try and update most days when i do something
so today trying to get the old manifold off, one of the damn bolts wont come out, heated it up, double nuts and trying to get it off but nothing so not sure how to get it of will have another go tommorow, but once its out this bad boy will be put in
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r93/ritchiehulse1986/manifold.jpg
DAMN YOU BOLT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r93/ritchiehulse1986/DSCF3475.jpg
Stripped the nova today all polycarbs out rubbed some of the bodywork down, revealed some nasty holes in the wings so not going to bodge it up so ordered some new fiberglass wings today hopefully i can pick them up this week
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r93/ritchiehulse1986/DSCF3492.jpg
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r93/ritchiehulse1986/DSCF3326-1.jpg
and a little accident lol
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r93/ritchiehulse1986/DSCF3482.jpg
Right so had a few hours so decided to get a little more done
decided to smooth the bumpers and fix some of the dints so out comes the filler
started of by sanding down the bumpers
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r93/ritchiehulse1986/DSCF3504.jpg
then onto the filler still needs a couple more skims
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r93/ritchiehulse1986/DSCF3506.jpg
and the back

looks like a nice little project, not too much work but enough to make a good difference when complete (if you get what i mean)

looking good mate :)
cheers lads, wanted to finish of the bumpers today but ran out of filler and every where was closed which angered me and lord no's i will be to full of turkey to care tomo lol, what do people think of smooth boots? to chavy or okay, was thinking about it with no spoiler but then again might not bother
thought i would do a quick update as to what i have been doing, sanding, sanding, and o more sanding lol
whilst the wings where of decided to sort out the inner wings, they werent in to bad condition tbf just filthy with light surface rust so got rid of all the rust and sprayed them with some underseal
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r93/ritchiehulse1986/DSCF3515.jpg
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r93/ritchiehulse1986/DSCF3521.jpg
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r93/ritchiehulse1986/DSCF3525.jpg
so I finished of the bumpers took a few skims but is a real nice finish now so happy with how they look, all sanded and smoothed ready for primer
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r93/ritchiehulse1986/DSCF3526.jpg
then got this little set up of a friend of mine
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r93/ritchiehulse1986/DSCF3528.jpg
never used a spray gun so a mate of mine came round to show me how its done, not as hard as i thought, i imagine spraying a colour will be harder so will probably leave it up to him
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r93/ritchiehulse1986/DSCF3533.jpg
then the bumpers all primed up really ended up nice just need rubbing down then will be ready for paint
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r93/ritchiehulse1986/DSCF3534.jpg
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r93/ritchiehulse1986/DSCF3537.jpg
hopefully will get both doors bonnet, boot and wings shoot up in the next few days as not much needing doing to them

nice to see another one of my old novas still being used and kept alive!
nice to see another one of my old novas still being used and kept alive!
Seems a couple people have owned it on here, most people didn't want it because it wouldn't start, sorted it out so plan on keeping her for a long time
Cheers for the pic simontw been wondering if I should have a spoiler on or not with the weight of them, still toying with the flush boot idea aswell does look nice
nice progress buddy keep it up, what managemet you running the xe on and how come shes so down on power/retarded
Yeah was down on the power run, after that I found out it was running really rich, turned out the vernier pullys weren't set up correct and were running retarded sorted that out, has been cammed but the exhaust is just a bog standard One which might be heavily restricting it, not sure how much truth is in that but once the new manifold is on should help it breath a lot better. Running standard management but I plan on going to chip wizards when its back on the road so hopefully they will give me all the advice on what I need to get it running better.
Right havent updated for a while so will show you what i have been up to, started by stripping all the parts of the nova as space can be awkard so would be easier of the car,
started with the doors, was struggling untill someone told me the trick to it lol
http://img825.imageshack.us/img825/593/jpegimage61203.jpg (http://img825.imageshack.us/i/jpegimage61203.jpg/)
with the doors off i DA it all down with 320s
http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/865/jpegimage16276.jpg (http://img163.imageshack.us/i/jpegimage16276.jpg/)
then stripped the bonnet wings and tailgate off then the fun starts.
http://img849.imageshack.us/img849/9735/jpegimage26925.jpg (http://img849.imageshack.us/i/jpegimage26925.jpg/)
Was a few repairs to be done, after looking at the wing decided that they where shot so splashed the cash on some fiberglass wings from chris on here
http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/1010/jpegimage1299.jpg (http://img163.imageshack.us/i/jpegimage1299.jpg/)
All was going well till my compressor started smoking away and set on fire so went to pic this rude boi up
http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/6922/jpegimage13322.jpg (http://img35.imageshack.us/i/jpegimage13322.jpg/)
so started shooting stuff with primer today after sandind everything down, panel cleaned and tac wiped everything down before spraying
couple of action shots for you all
http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/9591/jpegimage27758.jpg (http://img209.imageshack.us/i/jpegimage27758.jpg/)
http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/5947/scf3584.jpg (http://img210.imageshack.us/i/scf3584.jpg/)
http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/7083/jpegimage17114.jpg (http://img190.imageshack.us/i/jpegimage17114.jpg/)
Just filled all the imperfections with stopper and 500 everything down and all feels good right now. Going to do the wings on sunday so hopefully there will be some more pics up then,
Whilst the comp was out of action decided to sort out a few dints around the car
http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/9004/jpegimage60929.jpg (http://img809.imageshack.us/i/jpegimage60929.jpg/)
http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/6711/jpegimage26739.jpg (http://img197.imageshack.us/i/jpegimage26739.jpg/)
http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/1737/jpegimage27380.jpg (http://img19.imageshack.us/i/jpegimage27380.jpg/)
then decided to hit all the smooth bumper with stopper
http://img854.imageshack.us/img854/527/dscf3597g.jpg (http://img854.imageshack.us/i/dscf3597g.jpg/)
LookIng very rich , will have to pop over to you sometime and take a peek :)
I remember you coming over to riggy's unit to see why the car was running lumpy. Good see progress on the car. One thing I'd def do is put all the brake lines completely inside the car. Other then that there are some some tricks there.
Looking like the car will be sorted once and for all.
cheers lads, will hopefully get it all finshed soon then will finally get to the nw meet lol
There we go all pics resized so they don't take ages to load cheers for pm help

Haha pip that's our yearly meet lol, yeah smooth bumpers ftw, glad I did them but it is some effort. Hoping to get the car primed this weekend then should see some colour
Man Novas look so hardcore with no panels on, I'd want to drive it around like that just for the looks lol Nice work on the prep and painting.
well after a year of no work on the nova and to be honest completly lost the love for it i decided to get the project back on track.............by paying someone else haha

I'd say white out of them colours show.
Really not a fan of the white, in fact I absolutely detest it now, not sure why. I like the st blue colour most but I change my mind all the time
