View Full Version : I want to build another Nova
I'm thinking of building another Nova but not sure what engine to pick.
I want it to be faster than my last one which was a ph2 c20let (291bhp) but I don't want a LET this time because I hated the lack of room in the engine bay.
I want to aim for about 350ish bhp, only engine I can think of is a c20ne turbo conversion.
What would you suggest?

8v does = loads of room, i have just sacked off 8v turbo idea as its bloody expensive imo.
Parts are also very difficult and specialists know it lol

v6....room? might struggle on that one!
as expensive as a let would be to get to 300bhp would it not cost more to do that to another engine? perhaps go for a newer engine altogther corsa vxr - i think its a Z16LER?
i'm not very clued up on turbo/big power so i'l keep quiet now
It'll cost a bloody fortune get that kinda power from a GM NA motor, Turbo is your only hope really unfortunatly.
Theres always the option of tracking down a second hand 20XE JRE built motor, they produce 300+ ponies, second hand there about £5~7k tho :(
With regards to V6, I recently had the (dis)pleasure of changing the starter motor on a certain V6 Neva, not fun at all.

is it a impossibility to put a z20leh engine in a nova as ive never seen one done, or maybe im not looking hard enough lol
Corsa vxr engine would be a choice of mine

should have got the owner to do it; that'd teach him to replace tricky to reach items like that with new, first; whilst had the chance, before fitting.
Btw i vote Z20LET on aftermarket/programmable engine management. (traction/launch control equipped)
Did your old LET nova run any LSD's or anything?
*EDIT: didnt see bit about the engine bay room.
Z18XE Turbo then. With the aftermarket management. Easy small block fit; just would have to go mad with internals.
Z20 is about the same size as a c20 so thats no good.
And I was running a tran-x plate lsd

yeah sorry i didnt see the engine bay bit; ive edited my reply.
There would just be issues with the older small blocks; finding a gearbox that can take the grunt; would have to get a big block gearbox on to it somehow.
350ish bhp in a nova is only achievable from a C20let,yeah you maybe could get an xe to that, but for the cost and effort involved and the undriveability in a nova, you cant help but wonder what is the point?
dont bother building one, buy one already built, like i have, save time, money and swearing!!

Good shout!!
I would have got the owner to Peester, excepy hes a Toyota driving southern fairy lol lol
there is a few powerful 2.0 8vs out there
that mk2 astra and tigra that were at pvs for example
I think the astra was doing 10s
Just build an XE to a similiar spec as GAZ'd one, loads of gas & running low 12's IIRC. Nice & cheapish motor (on the grand scale of things).
16XE turbo, proper forged internals and proper management, cheaper than vxr to buy the basic engine but more cost in tuning,

So much win! Theyll take as much hp as your wallet can allow!!
Why scrap the first?
Build a 1.6 or 1.8 on tbs or turbo it.

But yet some folk take a YBT and go NA why? It's just a redtop then lol

anyways on the cossy note ive never been in a ecos been in the 3dor and the sapphire both my uncles he has owned around 8 sapphires one was the 450hp beast anyways ive been hooked on them ever since my first ride in one mental machines
I just don't think a 1.6 turbo will be faster than my LET, it was stupidly quick
To be honest about 300bhp is a top end in a Nova, any more than that and it will be slower trying to reel in the power imo. Paul on here will most likely tell you the same thing, along with the fact that changing CV joints sucks lol
