i now have my engine running with a t2 turbo, but the piston rings have gone. i would of thought if this was because the pressure was too high it would do more than just blow my rings? but i have been told to use a decompression plate. what boost would people advise using untill i get a decomp plate? i was thinking 7psi would be ok. (i need this to be running for USC 5th of august and can't afford the decomp plate) :(
any coment will be much appritiated....
thanks

No boost until you fit a decomp plate. Shouldve fitted one to start with.....

I wouldn't run it at all without it tbh but i know there about £155 ish for a decomp plate

Also depends on what thickness you need aswell, this affects what engine compression you run.

By the sounds of it you dont really know what your doing with this engine :S

Cheap and turbo coversion is always a bad combo,

iirc you have a E16 and bolted a turbo onto a high CR engine? Why?

You'll need to drop your CR from around 11:5.1 to 8:9.1 or better to run good boost.

A 1.5 mm steel spacer and 2 headgasket would do, search eBay, there are sellers on there that will make you one for about 50 quid,

but do some research please or you'll be rebuilding your engine again soon.

Sounds like the engine was dead to begin with, boost shouldnt do any damage to the rings unless you have 'detted' the piston crowns to bits.

Are you sure its the rings? (strip down) smoke couold be a knackered turbo, incorrect breather setup. etc etc

Plus if you cant afford to get the decomp plate, then you cant afford new rings lol

What are you running for the fuelling and ignition side of things?

get a decomp plate made at a local engineers... take the old head gasket in as a pattern, and remember to get them to cut the bores right for the block not the gasket... ought to be way cheaper than £155..

Even the oil return too low in the sump will cause the oil flow in the turbo to back up & smoke....

Christ I wouldn't want to go shopping with you lol

eBay, corsa 1.6 16v steel decomp plate £39.99 + £4.50 p+p
even ferriday quoted me much less than £155 for a aluminium alloy one,

did they add the scene tax twice to get that price?
