Hi all, I'm looking at different options for getting some power out of a C16SE engine. I've seen someone use Z16LER pistons, rods, exhaust manifold, turbo etc on a C16XE, so wondering if the same could be made to fit on the 8v'er!

I'm just trying to get some information together to see what's possible. I'm aiming for about 140bhp if that helps. It's a bit of a long-term project so cost isn't a massive issue, and I feel confident in doing this, I just need some information :)

for 140 hp, the original pistons would be man enough. you'll obviously need to re-ring it. the manifold off the LER is one with the turbo in it iirc, thus it is no use to the 8v. there is a lot of interesting 8v turbo stuff on colin smith's hillclimber project, on the recent pages.. and mike put a how to in the articles using rs turbo stuff..

Ok thanks for your reply, I'll have a look in Colin's thread, not been on here a while, bought some bits off him a while back though :) I was wondering if the LER manifold would fit to use the turbo or not though?

the ports are just incompatible between the 8 & 16v

Just find a salvage new shape Meriva with the 140bhp 1400 16v Turbo engine & run it up on Megajolt or something.

I was thinking about this option also, what's the engine code for that?

Dont know, call a dealership in the morning and ask them. Salvage ones are fetching very strong money (we know, we're looking at getting a salvage one to replace our 54 reg Meriva) theres one on eBay now (complete car) for £6k @ 348 miles.

Okay cool. I would prefer to go down the C16SE route purely because I'm being given one for free and I like the smallblock 8v motors :) I've got loads of tabs open from all the other SE turbo questions so hopefully I'll get everything I need to know from that lot. My main question was will the manifold fit, and it doesn't so that's that :)

a 1.2 carb model exhaust manifold has a single outlet, so a decent fabricator can soon make a manifold to turbo adaptor.

Cool! I currently have an SPi manifold on my 16SE which is single outlet, I read somewhere you can use a modified adapter from another car to use that.

right, then you need to decide what turbo you are using & get a mounting flange for it, then decide its running height, most people like it higher up so its oil drains to the sump easily, and get some measurements taken. them ask about for a decent welder/fabricator, cos every town has one.

Excellent :) I'm not picking up the engine for a couple of weeks yet, and I'll be buying the parts over the course of several months and building gradually. I want to do it once and do it right, so trying to gather as much info as possible. I'm thinking of using a T25 turbo off a Saab B204/B234 possibly.
