View Full Version : Nova Pilgrimage
Okay, this has probably been done before, and if so, I'd like to know more. I have been considering a drive for charity for a very deserving charity that does a lot of good work.
The drive would be a round trip to the Opel factory in Zaragoza, essentially taking my Nova to its place of construction (birthplace would of been too weird). But rather than going by ferry to Bilbao, I would rather drive through France and onto Spain, with some stop offs en route.
So, my question is this - Has this been done before? If so, please pm me.
Am thinking of doing it next year as 2012 will mark the 30th anniversary of the Nova, well Corsa as it didnt come here till 1983.
I look forward to hearing your views

The PNG of old did a visit to the Zaragoza plant back in about 1998 iirc. It mustve been to celebrate a certain landmark year since production. About 20 cars did the trip. The club managed to get invited in & had full hospitality treatment.
this sounds like a nice idea, and maybe something for our projects to be aimed at lol. i would love to take my car (once finished) accross europe for a good drive, something i have always fancied for some reason.

I would be very interested too, always something ive wanted to do also!
I'd be well up for that but a) the Nova probably won't be road legal then and b) like fcuk would I want to do nigh on 2000 miles in a Nova. lol
Can I take the cav? LOL

Only if we can take the engine out and ditch the cav in the car park as a symbolic thing

Nah, take the engines out the shonky Novas and put them into nice chavaliers lol
just think about it, there must be loads of car transporters on their way back to the gm plant... so getting there will be easy, its the getting back thats the problem....whoever organises it needs to make sure there is no vw event on the same weekend, cos all the recovery vehicles will already be prebooked for that.
I'd be quite interested in that, how long a trip would you be intending? as in how many nights, because thats what really starts to get the price flying up if stopping in B&B's etc

Sounds like a nice adventure to me, would be cool to take a whole fleet of Novas back to their birthplace.

camping is the best way. then allow about 3 days each way as a rough guess, so camping fairly light is the order. small tents, and buy food locally. i know people who drive straight thru from calais to the med in one day, but its a long drive........
maybe we should be looking at circuit visits, or other interesting places, as in national car museums etc.... is a doddle to get to leMans in 1/2 a day from the channel, but its only any use if you do a crossing to cherbourg/ le Havre etc...
I agree with mowgli, camping, other visits sound like the plan.
