hi, has anyone got experiance with the tuning boxes for sale on the likes of ebay etc, im thinking of fitting one to my 311 cdi sprinter, however dont want some piece of chinese crap that causes my engine to blow, how effective are they or am i best to steer clear?? discuss please :thumb:
imho dont bother... they just frig the rail pressure reading to force the PCM to do more power etc..... its just poor.
I put a tuning box on my cdti vectra c and it did make s good difference lots more torque and better fuel economy to it was a braggen.net one was fairly cheap to

This is true, sadly there is so much cheap crap being sold it gives a simple yet very effective product a bad name (bit like most things)
I Have sold a number of these sort of items and would recommend them to anyone. I dont and wont ever use cheap resistor box's. Fully digital box's are avalible but are not cheap and rubbish like the stuff found on ebay.
You have PM OP
I'd still not use a 'digital' box either...... But then what would I know about modern derv engines having spent 5 years working on Derv ECU software and calibration at Ford lol

Nowt, everyone knows Fords are crap lol
:p its the accountants that killed the quality of the Tranny engine :( The dev ones were amazing, millions of miles on the fleet and no real component failures, then come production they fecking fail on the lines :(

You say modern engines...What sort of effect would they have on my '99 2.0 HDi 306? which is a common rail derv
Still modern as far as most people care lol

Was too modern for me, hated it, and I had the old mech pump version lol

Stuart, i understand your knowledge in this area and would take all of your advice. However out of all the items i have used i have never had a problem and always get very impressive results. Its never going to be perfect ect but i cant see a problem with a properly tested device like these. Without a doubt they are not ideal but derv management is not cheap to play with now. Antitune is becoming a big problem in the road vehicle market and these are a simple and cost effective answer. We run 3 vehicles with them and one with a rolling road remap. There is not a million miles between them apart from the cost.

A friend has one on his Audi derv and it gives a noticable increase in BHP + Torque :)

I guess its upto the owners to take on the risk associated with frigging readings into the PCM..... Afterall common rail fuel system parts are everso cheap arent they ;) lol
Its not so much 'anti tune' its more vehicle immobiliser security and also for the first 5 years VOSA can (but rarely do) pull customer vehicles in and do the NEDC to see if the emissions are still within tollerence etc and then the OEM's get their asses fined should anything be wrong.
Plus most stuff has calibration tables for almost everything possible which makes it tricky for those who extract the hex file to see which table does what.... hence the rather large offers from some companies for the original calibration files lol
Personally, I wouldnt bother. I OBD flashed my diesel motor in my van myself, went like stink for a couple of days then engine died lol

Where do you plug a tuning box into a 205 diesel?
For the price of a decent digital tuning box, you could have it remapped which is 100 times better in every way.........

i fitted a very expensive tuning box onto my audi £500 box and to be honest it did nothing imo, was a hard wire one and car in question is a4 v6 2.5 with bosch vp44 pump not common rail, though months later my advance retard solenoid went in the pump, luckily i had a spare
