What dose it improve on

MK1_Ben
12-07-11, 10:15 PM
Too much to list really, as always if you're one of the people who don't use Social networking it would not be of interest. But it's a million times better designed than Facebook for example.

Just have a google and read some of the main features is the best thing to do!

I use Facebook and gave up on Twitter lol and tbh didn't know it was a new networking site lol

I use Facebook too, just there's been alot of "hype" about Google+ and all the people testing it are predicting it will replace Facebook. After using it I have to agree.

It'll be tough to displace FB. I've had a nose round G+ and yeah its Ok but tbh everyone I know and all my stuff is on FB, so it would be an upheaval to change.

They periodically hold them, but they're active again at the moment. I've sent you one.

I agree with that Jack, but once people see the functionality of it I'm sure it will easily surpass Facebook. Not to mention google having a large hold on the web due to their Chain of websites (Google Search and Youtube in particular).

No need to unfriend them, just restrict them. Think I've got my sister and various other family members on lists so I can chop them out of certain status updates lol

I think it will be sh1t and miss, just like all the other "social networks"
Social networks haha what a laugh,my social network is when i go to the pub or when my friends (thats real ones btw,and ones who matter, not someone who i used to go to school with who i only added in memory of him sh1tting his kecks in year2) come round to my house for ales and grub etc,not a list of letters and photo's who constantly moan about how life and men or women treat them so bad.
Or the Kyle contestants who have "likes" such as,"just because i can fit 2 cocks up my ass while smoking heroin and drinking meths doesnt mean im a bad mother"
Give me strength.....

There is only a select group which use them for that purpose?...

I myself only have my close friends from my school+college days, family members and the likes. It's a good way of keeping contact with the majority of them who don't live near me any more, not to mention incredibly useful for organising events with the ones that do live local.

Thats the thing I've been saying all along, people take the "friends" list on FB to be too literal. It doesn't mean everyone on there is your best mate, its just people you keep in touch with or know, or want to share things with. Sure, there are some people who take it to be a competition to have the most "friends", but those are the kinda people everyone pretends to like but secretly hates. lol

I note G+ has "acquantances" lol

MK1_Ben
13-07-11, 10:37 AM
That's why I'm championing G+, the circles feature is useful as the majority of people at my place of work are dumped into a "circle", so when I state to my friends half the people who work for us are retards, they don't have to see it ;)

Andy

But what i dont understand is this....
People who have friends on there, who they never speak to,never really will speak to etc.I know for a fact most of you users will be guilty of that.So therefore what said friends have to say is as interesting as the spambots.Infact theyre more interesting than some of my mrs "friends"
the only good thing i can say about it is ive had alot of work off a local page that my mrs advertises on for my business.Thats all.
Makes me laugh as some of them are that cabbaged by their computer they will only speak by text LOL "txt wen ur outside" "ow mch is it?"
The best ive ever had wrote this asking for a job in the inbox "oryt m8 ne jobs 4 teen m8,i wrk hd n kin to lern cn do wkend and n8s"
I replied "excuse me?"
Then looked at his profile-16 years old and his pics included drinking cheap cider, smoking bongs and making obscene gestures.
Fukkin gutter snake, but then thats this countries future employees (or not) asking for jobs by text speaking on facebook, then making a total cunnt of themselves by having these pics up.
Another thing that makes me laugh, theres other local businesses on said page who put "reliable, professional service" and then type their ad in text talk?! wtf?! Oh and they have the usual ganja smoking and drinking pics of when theyre blasted!.
1st impressions and all that hey?!

MK1_Ben
13-07-11, 10:48 AM
That's just the problem with some of the "younger-generation". I'm just shy of 20 and don't come across like the lad you mentioned do I? :)

Andy

No you dont.
Some of those "businesses" (L0l) are 20 and 30+ lol

MK1_Ben
13-07-11, 10:59 AM
I know the types you mean, they're shooting themselves in the foot though as I'd be hesitant to purchase goods/service from someone who talks like a 12 year old.

However, a lad local to me does bodywork in his garage turned spray booth (quite a good setup actually) and he types like the above to potential customers. His work is spot-on though, I'd say it's better than a couple of the bodyshops locally so you can't always judge a book by its cover.

Andy
13-07-11, 11:08 AM
True but as i say 1st impressions count for alot.
Would you pull into a garage with a sign saying "Andy's Garij" "Mot's servisin tire fittin zorsts batries weldin competive r8s and a proffeshanal servis"
Would you have someone in your house/garden/working on your car who openly puts pics of themselves taking drugs on the internet??

Andy, in that respect then surely FB is useful to you as it allows you to weed out the spakkers? So for example, instead of ringing a standard number listed in Yell or whatever for a particular service, and having the aforementioned reptilious bong-sucker turning up you can reject them straight away from your search by virtue of their retarded FB scrawl?

Better the devil you know and all that lol

LOL at reptilious hahaha lol lol
I dont use any services on there or any other really to be fair,as if theres anything i need doing i do myself, and i cant,i already know folk that can.
The people on fb mostly advertise grass cutting and scrap metal collecting etc.
Most that do are alright, just the small minority who do theirselves no favours
As i say it has been extremely useful in terms of business, ive got some great customers off there, and some well paid jobs aswell, its good for advertising. For me,thats where it ends.Im not a business who writes "sh1t day today, stood in 3 seperate piles of dog sh1t,ta very much, you know who you are.Anyway,im taking the daily sport to the bog as im touching cloth, might even take a can of super strenghth with us an all! woop woop etc and varios other l0lz"

Thats what faceparty tried, didn't work for them lol

The invite thing worked with gmail though, but to be fair there was no direct single competitor and they had a good product. I'm wondering if Google's aim is to use G+ as a sacrificial lamb to drop FB down a few pegs

Also the fact (as mentioned previously) Google owns a huge array of sites and products, have their own OS and own the Android phone system. If they get a foothold on social networking they'll have control of the majority of "sectors" on the internet. You could almost say Google is up alongsides Microsoft with "power" over the technology world.

Jack
13-07-11, 04:03 PM
I was thinking more along the lines of reducing FB's monopoly and power - at the moment, FB is THE social networking site. Everyone (almost lol) has it and uses it. You don't see much in the way of buttons for myspace and whatnot on sites like you do with FB.

They don't need G+ to be successful and become more popular than FB, they just need to use it to give people an alternative - and as soon as some people leave, FB stops being "the site that everyone uses" and if everyone is no longer on it then its less effective. Both could lose out because neither site will have a monopoly, the difference being that G+ has nothing to lose if it fails, but FB has everything to lose if a substantial percentage of its members depart.

At which point Google most probably steps in with a bid lower than their original one for facebook, takes it anyway since they leave facebook with so little option if it's threatening to lose out to google+, integrate their features in fb's members list etc... either way tbh the features etc on google are far better imo!

im a mystery...how come i dont have a million perople trying to get in me :/

13-07-11, 06:17 PM
So let me get this right, after reading this and nearly physically weeing myself at Andy's comments, you cant just sign up to this googley thing and make an account, you have to be invited, thats kinds ghey aint it?

Jack
13-07-11, 07:08 PM
Spud, its the same with a lot of google stuff. They do it as invite only in an attempt to keep numbers down whilst they test/develop stuff.

Anyways. Two things that have set my security hat into meltdown.

1 - can you hide your profile completely? FB can be put in a sort of "stealth" mode where even if someone types in your direct link, they can't see your profile. Yes I can hide myself from search engines, but if someone puts my direct link in then they see (at least) my profile pic and name [edit] and gender

2 - how do you explicitly deny a circle from viewing profile info or other items? In the custom privacy settings for each item you can only add cirlces, not deny them - so if, for example, I end up with 100 circles, and I want all but one of them to see my email address, I have to add 99 circles into the privacy box?

Tis a bad day wen I consider FB to have better security than something lol

[edit] 3 - if I choose to leave a section on my profile blank for future filling in, but set the privacy to anything other than "anyone on the web" (in case I forget later), it refuses to save the setting and reverts back to the anyone setting.

:tard:

Tanya.
13-07-11, 07:27 PM
If the security is rubbish i'll be staying away. I'm dubious enough about FB after someone with Gunnys picture decided to added me pretending he was a close family friend :tard:

I'd just like to see it do well. it seems every time the FB team 'improve' the site, it gets worse and slower. If it at least gives them the kick in the **** to sort it out then its positive.

Plus I am googled up to my armpits, and the fact alone that i can link it to my picassa account, and the fact it will no doubt run smoother with my Android, that can only be a good thing. But i'm just going to give it time and see what happens. it is Beta after all.

Stuart
14-07-11, 10:11 AM
Its irritating as Google seem hell bent on ignoring Blackberrys :( especially as they are trying to get google docs and email into companies for profit making (they were supplying google 'office' to JLR)

I had to go into picasa and change most of my albums to private/hidden incase G+'s security wasnt upto much... and even still I'm not putting much info on there.
