Hey, ive been on png for a while but now i actually have a nova to go with it!
I picked up a 1.0 2 door saloon poverty spec locally as my first car. Its a 1985 'b' reg, with 60k and one previous owner. I picked it up on friday from the previous owner's nephew as the old gentleman who owned it passed away late last year. It only did 40 miles since its last MOT just over a year ago, it was a bit juddery (possibly the carb?) but once it was a bit more run in, it seemed ok. She did hit 80mph!
The drivers side rear arch is a bit rotten and the battery tray is a little bit rusty, but the engine bay/inner arches/cross member are very clean as it had been wax oiled.
a little bit of rust on the bottom of the wing

Brown interior, coin tray instead of radio and every optional extra is blanked out lol
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j62/tom_1234/08072011263.jpg
Tight, but she fits in there with stuff in and on her..
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j62/tom_1234/11072011270.jpg
I'm going to attempt to bring some shine back into the paint, but the boot lid is very sun damaged, pressed plates, a nice drop and maybe minilites? As its my daily and i'm soon to be a student, progress will be slow and minimal.
More pics to follow after she's mot'd and taxed

Plans sound good, novas are awesome dailys when your a student aslong as you maintain them (which i didnt lol).
flare the arches slightly then your good to go for 13x7 minilites :thumb:

Only got 3 mudflaps mate lol, got some GM ones (might be fake but i don't mind) i'm going to use on the back and keep the vauxhall ones on the front.
Got some Vauxhall dustcaps i'm going to use too lol!
This is exactly the same as mine, China blue with chequered cream seats, early b reg too.
Only difference is that mines a 1.0 without a radio lol, swap a coin tray for radio? :P
I have been adressing the rot issues on both arches, i got a mate to weld up some bits and i'm waiting on a replacment arch kit for the drivers side as that was too far gone so once that is done, it should be MOT time..
Also fitted new spark plugs, a compressor and points so it ran a bit better for a while..so now the carb is being cleaned out and hopefully it'll run like a peach :)
It's nearly on the road!
Also, i found a piece of paper under the boot carpet with the manufacture date stamped on it, 14th November 1984, though it wasnt registered until Feb '85

sad to see it go, but it shouldn't be for long :)
it's being taken to a vw specialist nearby, my friend recommended the garage to me so its off to there, at least they know how to tune carbs :P

that sounds familiar, it might be the one twin40's used to have, i viewed it ages ago then a lad that is mates with my ex ended up with it lol. is it f reg? if it is that one its a 1.4 sr lump in it
EDIT: is it F485 PUL?
NathanSRi
11-11-11, 12:41 AM
Yeah it is, but it hasn't got a 1.4 lump in it, just a standard 1.2 with a 4 branch

Ok so I thought I'd do a proper update instead of the half arsed ones I've previously done lol
Firstly, heres a couple of snaps of the Nova a few days after I picked her up and after a wash, with my Honda C90 in Arden Blue lol

And one next to my brothers 306, lowered 60mm on Lenso BSX's. The Pug is on winter wheels at the minute, the Lenso's are possibly for sale, 4x100/108 multifit, 15x7 et20 i think, if anyone is interested, PM me :)
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j62/tom_1234/15072011279.jpg
Ok so heres the Nova as she's sitting now
Little bit of Hammerite on the front, until i can get some China paint..

NES pad on the tow hook and Vans sticker on the boot
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j62/tom_1234/24122011429.jpg
Suffolk vehicle watch (on it when i bought it, but win for retro value), VW Antiks (the garage i took it too), Stock's (Dealer it was purchased from in 1985), PNG, speedhunters.com, Neighbourhood watch (Win) and Scrappage scheme survivor. Hate how wonky the scrappage scheme one is..
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j62/tom_1234/24122011430.jpg

So a total list of things done so far include:
Steelies in black
Arches welded up
NES pad on tow hook
Stickers
New plugs, ignition coil, condensers and soon a new starter motor will be fitted since it was on its way out and now it doesn't actually start lol
For 2012:
Pressed plates
Lowered, not sure how low to go though
Cav Expression/Nova Luxe+ wheels (BBS Ra's)
Paintwork being sorted out

fitted my new starter motor this morning, shes running sweet as a nut now :)
Nice work on getting it back on the road. I like the standardness of it all. Seems right sat next to a C90 too, retro overload!
See if you could hide a head unit somewhere and keep the coin tray? Then throw in a set of period alloys and some lows, sorted!
I'd get that bonnet painted ASAP mate before it gets too rusty lol

The boiled linseed oil cost the same as a can of back to black (£5) and you get as much, but it lasts like 4 times longer :)
ahh Josh your young wisdom is flawed :P using a heat gun a lot makes the bumpers brittle from the heating and cooling! probably the worst thing to use aha

Ok so I have a pretty big update!
Firstly, i have it on coilovers now! 70mm front and 100mm rear. It is nice and low now :)
Secondly i have purchased a set of clio steelies for the tyres, £45 for 3 dunlop's in great condition and a goodyear in not so great condition, all 165/65 13, which is a great size tyre and will look lovely on my alloys, which are in a state of mid-refurbish! I have decided the alloys will have a polished face and cream inner spokes to match the interior.

How she sits as i type!
70mm front..

...100mm rear!
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j62/tom_1234/10032012538.jpg
Also, i purchased a roof rack for £10 from an old fella off gumtree, mocked up a bmx to see how it would look, as i am thinking of using the bmx after parking my car somewhere just outside of where i need to be, to save parking fees :P
(standard ride height here)
