Hi, my horn will not work I am having a problem with the earth that goes into the steering wheel if I put an earth wire to the body of the car the horn works fine but if I just use the wire that goes into the steering wheel I get nothing does anyone have any ideas I was looking at running another earth just unsure where to put it to any ideas what I could do ?

What steering wheel gave you got could be the slip ring on the back of the wheel or the button it's self

yeh i agree that slip ring can wear quick if not greased! if you see a goldish dust round the area of where the wheel turns there is you problem

The wheel is an sr one if its the ring do I just need to replce it ?

no it will be the little contact that is on a spring that will need replacing, but i dont think you can replace it i think you have to buy the whole thing, ive got a picture of it somewhere i will get it for you!

The ring should be the same on any standard wheel and the little pin may be easier replaced with the complete unit but is more than likely your problem will it work when you turn the wheel

Here you go, see the little brass thing sticking out the top, it makes contact to the back of the wheel for grounding purposes, and there is a slip ring on the back of the wheel so when it turns its always making constant contact, its also on a spring so that it can move backwards and forwards, but if not properly greased like mine, it will begin to fail in its contact so no horn! you can see all the gold dust on the houseing for it where it was wearing on my old steering wheel, luckily i put on my old steering wheel with plenty of grease and it continued to work, but i will have to find myself a new one!

Sorry to hijack the thread but iv just got hold of an sr steering wheel and the contact ring on the back of the wheel only has a red wire coming off of it but my my standard wheel has red and brown wires? Where does if it needs one the brown wire go as there is no connection on the contact ring for it?
