basically the engine im rebuilding didnt come with any cambelt covers, ive been to a few scrappys and they dont have any so i just want to check im doing this right

The top cam pully should be at 12oclock - TDC

Remove spark plugs put a screw driver in number 1 turn the crank pulley by hand until i can feel the piston at the top and just about to go down - TDC

should this make it time up correctly ?, how will i know its not 180 degrees out ?

this is the belt that tensions on the waterpump
cheers

fit the belt like you said then turn the engine over by hand

turn it over 2 revolutions and the timing marks should be what you set them to in the beginning

the covers are still available from vauxhall if you want them, as I bought a set last year for my old one. they had to get them from europe, and they are £30 for the front, and £60 for the rear 2 though :(
