Hi, I have just noticed on my car that the temperature gauge does not move at all. At first I thought it might be the thermostat and it wasn't reading.
So I started the car and let it idle and heat up for a while. When the engine started to get real hot the fan came on then.
Should it come on if there is no reading?
Could anybody shed any light on the thermostat gauge problem?

Thanks Chris

as above the temp sender is just a few quid to buy. and just in case you dont know where it is ;) just about where the arrow is :)

and yes the engine will get hot and the fan will come on (which is a good thing)

Have you checked it's connected first?

Ok changed the gauge sender and let the car idle up till it was hot and still the gauge has not budged.
Any more ideas, it would have hardly loosened from behind the dash?
Or is there a fuse for it?
Let me know thanks Chris

track the wire from the sender to the dash and get a multi-meter on it, if the wire checks out have you got an other set of clocks to try?

just checked, its a single light blue wire that goes straight to the multi-plug on the clocks

just double checked, there is one blue wire that goes to a relay on the fuse box but is not that (slightly diff blue colour)

Well finally got the gauge sorted. it turned out the gauge itself was faulty. So I swopped it with a spare from another dash. Anyways cheers steve and swedge for the advice.
