as i keep failing to purchase a cheap mappable setup for my e16se, i was wondering if any of the later setups as used in astra/zafira could be remapped cheaply, and worth using.

well.... I'm sure you could make the Corsa C 1.2 ecu work with the transponder key etc and then get somewhere to map that (its the one used for running ZLET's too). Although that does run an ETB so might throw a spazzy fit unless they can map that out.

tbh for the cost of any solution you wont beat microsquirt and some time with a laptop yourself, 1600 8v's are cheap as chips so it matters not if you det the nuts off one lol

You could use piggyback systems like Dastek do/used to do back in the day. Dont even know if they're still going tbh.

But nothing comes close to proper mappable system.
So to answer your question, no.

Is the engine standard?

I'd sooner tell Mike to fit an RB26DETT than fit a unichip (dastek) as you are limited to their 'tuners' due to it being a locked down system

its standard at the moment, adam, but i am peed off with innumerate ecu faults that keep changing all the time... and i have a big box of spare ecu's etc...

stu, i can't get close to finding a cheap microsquirt, even though i'm certain there are literally hundreds languishing in peoples sheds cos they can't work them out

Funny you should say that, there is a full size Megasquirt sat in a unit in my bedroom lol. Mainly because I have no use for one as opposed to not understanding

YOu can get pickup the latest Microsquirt for around the £300 mark iirc.

Stu, i did say back in the day... Lol

What exactly do you want aftermarket stuff for mowgli?

Seems a tad pointless on a 1600 8v, thats standard?

I have a car that has done 12.5k from new. The body is in perfect condition. i have no intention of bashing it about..... I know that if i stuck a 2.0 engine in it, i would either be in a court room or a pine box..... I nearly died with 1.6 power once before... I use this car for a hobby, and i am getting sick of the jetronic setup continually playing up on me. So i thought if i got something newer, the parts supply would be easier.

Also, the jetronic is a damned awful injection system compared to a digital system, and as the lad who stock hatch races has proven, if it is replaced by something decent, it can make a lot more power than the factory one, with nothing much else done.

Let me have a ponder and I'll try to come up with something viable for a norvener :p

What do you need to "bash about"?? Those little alternators (mazz iirc) work dont they, them Kubota ones??
Have you considered a C or an X16xe 16v??
12.5k or 500miles i would do it all day long myself lol I had a 1 owner from new 21k swing (ripe for sport replica) and did that.
Ive nearly died on a Cub 90 before....its all about the time and the place and conditions;) get it wrong-yes you will come a cropper.
In regards to maps etc-ive no idea,i use a sat nav lol
Nah,one thing i do know is theres far more parts available for the xe or even the 1600xe's

andy, my eventual aim is a z18xe/x18xe1, but being a father of three girls in a building recession means my funds are tight to say the least....

Thats fair enough, but the point were making is save the money for the z18xe (which is a damn good engine btw) and just live with the 8v for now

i want to live with it for a bit, but it is full of erratic faults that i just can't seem to find....the ecu light comes on, then off, and it sometimes fast idles & sometimes doesn't, then it will die & then suddenly run ok... the only time it actually runs ok is when i absolutely cane it thru the gears to the limit, which can be fun, but a tad antisocial...

No wonder I never had any ECU problems with mine.

would carbing it not be a cheaper option? set of bike carbs can be picked up cheap, if you know anyone who can fabricate theres the inlet, and just get rid of the management

Aftermeerkat management on a totally standard engine would still make more hp then OEM managment on the same engine.

/\ bloody right. there is an infamous low spot at 75 in top on the gte that was put in there to get 45mpg on the official figures, the injection is basically a bit of 1970's printed circuit work. to map it, you need to get the resistor colour band chart & the soldering iron out.
