by smoothin' do u mean the dips that house the sticker thingy and stuff, just use alot of filler and make it real smooth and then paint, spot on

iv done my front 1

i found it was best to file back the grooves slightly for best results... then its basically jus a case of filling and sanding it smooth... its alot of hard work tho

GTE or GSi?

GTE has few grooves

1 make sure the bumper is fully degreased (non of that silicone shine stuff on it)

2 make sure you use bumper filler bot p38 which doesnt stick too well to the plastic bumpers are made from (ABS) - bumper filler is slight;y flexible

3 key the filler area 1st by scoring/filing it

4 sand down and sand surrounding area and the whole bumper smooth using progressive grades of wet n dry - do this dry coz filler absorbes water and you dont want to be left with water damage under the paint layer - remember GTE bumpers arent as Knobbly as GSi ones - if a GTE one should be pretty quick

5 spray with filler primer (orange stuff) - this will smooth pout any scratches or imperfections and will also show up any faults - dont spray it too thickly - keep the coats medium light and allow plenty of time to dry between coats otherwise it'll form a skin and the paint underneath will still be wet! if you have any straggly bits of bumper fluff (like plastic but all furry) the spray will freeze it making it easy to remove

6 smooth back

7 spray with plastic primer - 3 coats

8 smooth back

9 spray with top coat - 3 coats

10 allow to fully dry for at least 4 days( a week is better) out the rain and damp
11 (dont smooth back) apply lacquer -at least 5 coats - bumper is a high impact area and dirt, grit and stones will damage paintwork very quickly - lacquer seals the bumper

12 smooth back and apply more lacquer if needed

13 allow to dry for a week

14 polish up using fine rubbing polish - avoif waxing for 3 months - use super resin polish or nonwax polish (paint will take up to 3 months to cure - wax seals in solvents preventing itfrom curing and paint will discolour quickly)

OR

Take to a body sghop and pay about ?200 (or les) for both bumpers
