on me 14sr a problem with the pierberg carb
the 2nd choke doesn't appear to be opening.
what's the most likely problem to be an how easy is it to fix?
at the moment i haven't got time to spend stripping the whole thing down if i don't need to.
any ideas would be greatly apreciated as my haynes bible is currently down in london at the moment!

iv forgot wit that carb but... it might open using a vacuum and its stuck, or it might be the plastic pip on the moving throttle part, and has snaped off, i had this prob aswell but forgot how i fixed it :s (3 years ago)

take off airbox
stick a brick on the throttle pedal to keep it wide open (there is a lever that stops the second choke operating under half throttle)
pull off the vacumn pipe going to the second choke
suck on this and the choke diaphram should lift up opening the second choke
hold the vacumn and make sure it doesnt shut. if it closes then the pipe / diaphram is leaking
sometimes the choke will stick shut and the daiphram will lift up . if this happens then spray some wd40 on the throttle spindle and free it up a bit

if all this works ok then attach the hose back to the carb pull the end off the diaphram and blow some carb cleaner down it. you should get cleaner come out into both venturi's if not they are blocked and thats the problem

have fun :)

how can u tell iff the 2nd choke isn't opening?

Does it loose power?

i put a 2e3 in place of my 1b1 on my 1.2 and i'm not sure if the 2nd choke opens. I don't get a sudden increase in power lie my sisters twin choke weber on her Escort, but it does go a little bit faster than the 1b1, unless its just me driving harder.
