My best one is 8 hours drive in and drive out on a GSi. Didn't weld the bay though.

To take 1200 engine out, stitch weld + hockly plate, paint, fit xe and other bits it took 3 weeks.Did 3 saturdays and a couple of nights in the week after work, never did later than 8.
I would say about 25-30 working hours in total.

lol its taken me about 3 years but with all bits to hand and a reasonable workshop to work in would prob take a couple of days to complete once ya no where every thing goes

Over a year is enough time to fully strip clean and rebuild at least 12 engines with all new parts, including time for setbacks, machining work, engine out and back in etc etc. You're either not paying enough, not important enough, or been had.

or since most people are doing it themselves they have real life to deal with, the weather, working, families, money set-backs

tj, the important thing is not how long its taken, but how much money have you paid him.......did you get sloth to do it or something.....

But in this case he's paid someone to do it? So what I said applies...

Lewis.

so therefore everything Draper has said, applies to this other fella then

So a year is a reasonable turn around on a paid job? I wouldn't say so. I'd be a bit ****ed off if they had it for over a month without good reason. If they haven't got the time to do it they shouldn't be taking paid work on it?

Lewis.
05-07-11, 05:13 PM
imagine someone gives you there car, pays you for 2 weeks work, you do 2 weeks work, but the job isn't finished. then they dont pay anything for a year, so you don't do any work for a year. fair? yes.
just another possibility there, Mark.

Possible, but I wouldn't go complaining on a forum that someone hasn't done work I haven't paid them for.

Lewis.

nor would I, but this is the internet, and it happens lol

mowgli

soon we will get someone complaining about work not done because the car isn't theirs & they never actually asked anyone to do it.... oh, sloths cav mk1.......never mind......

Realistically with all the parts 3 8h shifts but since he never met you or sent pics then progress has been slow or it's still as you dropped it off

That will teach me for not reading properly haha, my bad

Still, without knowing the full circumstance's regarding time frame, money paid, mate or business etc there could be any answer to the OP's question

That's cheap! no wonder it's taking a while. Most garages will charge £400 for a head gasket change, let alone a whole Engine conversion.

ive had my XE engine for 7 years, just gave up on the idea before any work took place lol
