1.4 8v to 1.4 16v

I have a 1.4 NV 8 valve Rally car and I would like to go 1.4 16 valve. The 8v NV is in good running order can I use the bottom end and put a 1.4 16v head on to that block and if so what do I need to get it working, I will be using Carbs or TB's, or is it just better to get a 1.4 XE motor ?.

IIRC you will need pocketed pistons.

You could do it that way, without modding the pistons, but you'd lose a bit of compression.
If your going on wild cams you'd need to sink the valves into the head a bit.
Be much better if you were to find a decent 16v donor engine to start with.

Thanks guys, May just have found a 1.4 16valve engine as a freebee in Germany and as it so happens I'll be in that part of Germany with a van in two week time any way.:)
