quick question (1.4 corsa)

hi everyone just a quick question,

my friend has a 1998 corsa b, 1.4. firsty he says its a 16v
the problem is that the thermostat has failed and needs replacing however the garage he took it to said they have to take the water pump and cambelt off..... now im sure you only have to do these on the 8 valves?! and the thermostat on the 16s are on the top right where the top rad hose goes.

also am i right in thinking that if it is a 1998 model it would be a 16v or did they do 8v's this late?

If the garage says they have to do the cambelt to do it, and your mate isnt sure, then i would say its an 8v tbh.

Get him to show you the engine or send a pic, but either way if he isnt savvy enough to know what engine he has then he certainly shouldnt be going to garages by himself lol

also whats the engine code for a 1.4 8v mpi engine like the nova sri's had and the corsa sri's ?

Pass mate, but just because it may have left vauxhall in 1998 with a 16v or 8v engine, it could have been changed along the way, blown up and replaced on the cheap, or started as an 8v and upgraded, so a look under the bonnet is the only way to be sure!

Engine code for mpi 1.4 8v is C14se, and it looks completely different to a 16v so is easy enough to identify.

Corsa 1.4 8v's looks identical to the nova gsi and Sri apart from the nova having the distributor and Corsa having a coilpack

Corsa Sri 8v is c14se and the 16v is x14xe

My sister had a 1998 s reg corsa breeze with a 1400 8v engine so they made them fairly late, IIRC the only ones to get the 16v motor were the sri, sport, and gls models.

ive got a corsa 1.4 8v breeze there single point not multipoint and mines a 98 on an s so yep made them fairly late :thumb:

identification is rather easy... has it got a huge lump of plastic on top of the engine???

i put a list of the 8v lumps in corsa b 93-00 but like people have also said the difference is very clear from 8v to 16v
