help pl 1.2 8v antibes

hi i have just bought an e reg 1.2 8 valve antibes, have mot'd as was left in a barn for 8 years, it has a manual choke carb. but really seems to struggle on any engine power and feels as if it will not go above 60-65mph at top speed,
the oil is fresh and have changed the spark plugs,
is there anything else i should check or change or should i just assume that the engine has seen better days,

stored for 8 years and it passed an mot with just plugs and an oil change?!

Get the engine tuned by a tuning place the carb will probabily want setting up haveing been stood for so long.

What carb does it have make sure all the little vacuum hoses are all ok and not perrished that may cause it to be down on power

passed the mot with just a rear wheel cylinder and a split cv boot and a 2 inch plate on front cross member, plan on engine swap but not just yet so need to sort this one out for now, will check all vacuum pipes when get car back at end of the week, looking for a mk2 painted bumper as well if any1 has one, cheers
