im moving to derby hopefully before the end of the next month and i cant believe what i can afford lol thought i would have to get a flat on my budget but looking in to it i can get a 2 bed house for under 400 quid a month :p

i know i will have other bills like council tax etc but i cant believe how cheap it is to live out side of London lol a flat in north London would/can cost that a week lol

forgot to add that these places have drives as well so thats a big bonus to car tinkering and very close to donnigton park :thumb:

anyhow, after 6 months residence, you get issued with a sheep. but only if you use one of the following words in every sentence :

gunna, cunna, dunna, wunna, shunna.

Derbyshire is great, plenty of fantastic places to go/see/drive to get away from the rat race. Wouldn't live in the city though. The city does get a bad rep some of rightly, a lot of it not so. It used to be a very friendly and safe place where everyone said hello etc The locals will tell you why it isn't like this anymore.

I know a couple of people who live in Chellaston, it's not too bad by the sounds of it. Could have been a whole lot worse!

Derby is not all that bad. I hate football with a passion but I imagine every town or city has its passionate football supporters. There has always been a big rivalry between Derby & Notts County. I steer well clear. The thing that does annoy me is the wasted taxpayers money being used to police these bunches of childish thugs as they go and get p!ssed then watch a bunch of overpaid girls kick a ball round for a bit. Then the thugs get all mardy if they lose and go and kick the crap out of each other. No other Sport would be allowed to get away with it! Also its a nightmare to drive through Derby when they are going in or kicking out. Sorry, rant over.
Looms' used to be brilliant for Nova's with 10-15 in there regularly, I have had some great parts from there over the years. But as usual, time moves on and there aren't many Nova's on the road now so there is even less being scrapped. Its full of Corsa B's now, good for a £15 Epas column though if you are quick enough ;)
Not many scrapyards let you help yourself now so it is good in that respect.

turbojolt
30-06-11, 05:37 PM
i dont like football ither i live about a 5 min walk to tottenham's stadium and its impossible to get parked anywere on match days lol

It appears Mowgli has a disliking for people from Derby or Derbyshire, not sure what we have done to deserve his rantings but all sounds to be stereo typing.
Its a good job I am not easily offended. I think most people that have met me know I am nothing like he describes, neither are anyone else I know locally.
I could go on about people from Leicestershire but I would not stoop that low, plus there is not enough room on here.
Every town has its good and bad points and Derby has a lot of good ones so I am sure you will settle in OK up here.

Rich you've proved your hate an dis interested in football.

It's Derby County and Nottingham Forest that are rivals. lol

Aye up me duck! No we don't all talk that that lol

Being serious, Rich hit the nail on the head. The city is no different behaviour wise to others I've been to (nights out included). I'm from Derbyshire rather than Derby but it is my home city and it's easy to be overly critical of a place you know so well. The countryside is something else though.

You pretty much have some fantastic places/sights/walks/etc on your doorstep wherever you are around Derby, as you've found up in Castleton - thoroughly recommend walking in the hills if that's your bag. Hathersage is nice, good walks again. Matlock for some fish and chips with the bikers lol and some great drivers roads, mind the Talivan.

Sure you'll be fine, shout up if you need any info etc
