as above guys, id like to loose the rod gears an fit cables (off a vectra maybe??) just wondering if anyone has done this an how easy it was to do...?
for what particular reason?? for a lot less work, you could fit the cav style shifter...

because i race nova's and the rods keep jaming up on the rack, an it gets stuck in a gear or even worse nutrel. so with cables they will "never" jam up or cause problems
as i previously alluded to , getting rid of the complete nova linkage & fitting an internal shifter rod creates a direct shift... look at mk1/mk2 astras, they don't have any linkage, just a gearstick, a rod & 2 uj's.

but the rack is higher up on the astras...movin the shifer inside would still use the nova linkage under the bonnen ryt.? :S
i'm positive its been done by someone on here in the past.. i'm not sure how though..
why not make a rosejointed linkage, there are 'how to' threads on here about it.
internal shifter will make no difference to his problem.
You need some thing like the quaife linkage, have a look in peester's progress thread and try to make something similar to that
Yes it's possible to ditch the gear linkage with an internal shifter setup.
Peester used early Astra parts to make his work IIRC. I've also seen pics of a Cav style internal shifter rosejointed (to swap pivot direction) in order to connect directly to the shifter turret, doing away with the linkage.
I think both of the above are cheaper/DIY ways of avoiding spending hundreds on a Quaife shifter setup.
I dont see why you cant use a cable shift setup from the likes of the veccy/astra but finding the selector turret not fitting the smaller boxes will be the biggest pain.
