Ryt,

last week i did an inner CV joint on the passenger side.

Put another SECOND HAD CV on to replace it.

Did 50 miles or so and the same joint has gone again!

Any ideas?

Bad luck with the second hand part or is there something im missing?

does everyone put a new CV on when theres goes?

I can get a brand new CV joint for £50

Thanks,

Ollie

Engine will not be more wonky that the driveshaft angles so I doubt it's that, CV's are consumable/wearing items on a car, replace with new.

[QUOTE=MK999;1890414]Engine will not be more wonky that the driveshaft angles so I doubt it's thatQUOTE]

but if there running slightly of centre all the time so to speak it would give em abit of extra strain.

I did notice more vibration than normal a few miles before!!!!!

They are running slightly off centre all the time, wonky engine or not, if they weren't we wouldn't need CV's in the first place

Why laugh at someone (MK999) who is trying to help you out. He does have a perfectly valid point.
If an engine mount was broken and your driving it hard you wouldn't have to check....you would know.

However if something is more than slightly out and you have excessive drive shaft angles you will break CVs all the time. So well worth checking that out.

Mine done the inner cv joint on passenger side on a turbo but i bought a brand new 1 for £35 and never come off since then or had any problems. The engine dont look straight in the picture but im guessing its because you have the bolts out? But id line the engine all up then try a new cv joint

B16_OJB
29-06-11, 12:44 PM
yeah mate.....

both bolts have come out lol

thats whats caused it!

where you get a new CV from for £35?

Excessive driveshaft angle would have to be mental though, the standard nova angles are like 20 degrees lol Even with the engine mount fail above the CV dying in such a ridiculously short time would be due in the majority to buying a used/worn consumable part imo, although most likely accelerated by an increased driveshaft angle.

In fairness MK, that will have killed a brand new CV in a fairly short time too! But I have to ask...how the feck did you not notice that when driving hard?!

B16_OJB

ITS HAPPENED FOR THE THIRD TIME NOW!!

i bought the car half converted.

i have noticed that the anti-roll bar lowering blocks havnt been fitted and the lug on the gear box and the bottom pulley has been touching the ARB's. The inner CV usually breaks when giving it some in 1st then putting it into second with the gas on....

Maybe its the pulley hitting the ARB and causing it to break!

Sound likely?

this time im puttin a new CV joint on and fiting some ARB lowering blocks

powerrrrshifftttttt!

That's half your problem, hoofing an XE from first to second will cause alot of strain on them, it's alot of power and your wheels are most likely spinning all over the shop, couple that with banging it into the next gear at load and you're inviting them to break.

Stuart

I'm very sure the CV's arent spinning at 7K ;)

B16_OJB
11-07-11, 12:43 PM
the missing ARB blocks the problem?

nova_saloon
11-07-11, 03:03 PM
not having lowering blocks wont be helping, you need them lowering blocks or you take the roll bar off its self! but ive used nova shafts on my XE now for 2 and a bit years, never had a problem, and i have driven it hard, but maybe not as hard as you, its a car after all and death comes quick from ragging the goonies out of it. but i know this sounds stupid and you've sorted everything and it still does it but could you be lucky and you have a LSD fitted and nobody knew, cause that will for sure break the CV joint, and be dam lucky at the same time to had. get some uprated ones, when mine give up if they do im getting uprated, proberbly worth it!

Damo

the missing ARB blocks the problem?

Wouldnt have thought so mate thats just to stop the frontpipe hitting the arb.

Lewis.

well 4th gear is straight through, so the wheels will be turning at engine speed in 4th and faster in 5th :p

Unless you have a 1<:1 FD then still no :p
Most vaux FD's are around 4:1 so you are looking at say 2K if you rev to 8K in 4th (which is still not 1:1 but hey)

what make joints are you using ?

i tend to try and get shaft tec ones (pj16) although i have done 3 joints over 3 years , but anyone that knows how i drive the nova would be shocked that i havent broke more
