Right, on an xe lump can the cam cover oil breathers be piped to a drain if you are running carbs?

Into a catch tank yeah.
Make sure the breather mod has been done too.

The large one previously had a filter on it which I will put back, so just the small one in a bottle then?

You are best putting both into a catch tank that has a vent filter on. Instead of just putting a filter on the end of the pipe.
