View Full Version : I has a new job/placement
Finally got my placement for the year sorted, working for CFM Engineering in Reading, I'll be doing engine rebuilds/modification, modified heads, engine conversions etc! Really well kitted out workshop with a rolling road as well, looking forward to it after years on a till/academic work with cars!
Start tomorrow as they're pulling the rollers out the floor to be modified and I offered to come in to help and see how it all works.
...I shall enquire about PNG discount at some point lol

Nice one buddy.

Was good! Helped set up an old VW transporter on the rolling road with some unfortunately broken dellorto's on it, idle jets just didn't work so it did power runs and made good gains after headwork, but idled on 2 and a half cylinders, which is a shame as the carbs need rebuilding, which means re-setting up later
Put together an 8v head, just to prove I could do it more than anything lol Looked at a very broken Vectra and diagnosed it as soon as the bonnet was lifted, power boost valve with a gauge attached lol Thing was rather shonky though, bits broken off and missing plugs etc, quite sad really as it was an ST200! Massive hole in the power as the power boost valve kicked in a load of fuel and ran it rich, then it hit 170 ATW on a massive peak.
Then took apart the rolling road ready for it to be knurled across the rollers and new bearings fitted in preparation for all new software to go in, it's currently on dials etc like an MOT test brake rating, so that's going in favour of all new equipment equivalent to Myra's dyno system apparently, so should be able to handle around 800bhp.
Back tomorrow just for the evening as I'm at Wickes in the morning, to do some work on a westfield engine (what the 8V head is for, ford pinto) and make a start on one of these which has just had a 7k rebuild and respray :):

Beats working a till any day!
Nova-Tek, PM me with what you want doing, and I'll get back to you with a price? The guy I'm working for is a wizard with heads, getting crazy power out of 2l VW lumps, 230-250ish! Done around 40-50 of them apparently and he's done a few XE/LET heads before too.
Good choice to do headwork etc on them as well as it just makes it a nicer engine to drive and a better powerband etc, rather than just pumping more boost into it
Edit: Just been told hes pulling 240BHP from a C20XE. So heads are easily capable of that naturally aspirated.
Oh also have to complete a project to fulfill requirements for uni, so thinking of doing an engine build for the nova, may not be actually complete as a car depending how much I earn but it just needs to be in a shell with driven wheels and working engine, so we'll see... potential is pretty awesome considering whats possible in house though :d
Excellent news, well done to you! :thumb:
Thanking yous, Can I expect to see you in soon for a flowed head for China? :d
I will stop the daily updates at some point, promise lol Today being a saturday and having Wickes work in the morning, I went down about 4.30 which is own project time, which is a mk1 Scirocco and a Rover Vitesse Turbo, helped take some odd bits off a donor Scirocco which is off for scrap and then helped take apart and cleaned (big hot washer) a 2.0 turbo lump which is to replace the one that just went bang. All good fun and I didn't totally strip down my 1.6 when I did that so was nice to pull the crank out of one finally and see a bare block! Bare mint block too, 87k and you could see your face in the bores and still all honing marks present!
