View Full Version : CCTV in the workplace
Whilst being bored for the last few hours on nightshift, me and a couple of other chaps have found a few web cams placed around our department :(
Our department is about the size of a football pitch
The company has always used web cams to monitor different bits of machinery, but now they seem to be placed on walls looking at area where people sit on nightshifts, sitting down on a day shift is a no no , or on exit doors out of our department
The thing with these cameras is that management can log on to the company computer system whilst being at home at any time to take a look
Is there any laws about this stuff ? I'm hoping it's illegal as I'm a lazy coont on nights lol
I guessing they want to keep a closer eye on us but I didn't apply to be on Big Brother lol was going to crack the hose on the cameras lol
Anyone had anything like this before ?

draw some boobs on the lence and the guy who looks on the camara will not be paying attention to wats behind the boobs :thumb: lol
We have been through all the things we could do to the cameras, believe melol
We were close to taking them down at 3/4 in the morning soaking them in a bucket and putting them back up :d
However we all like our,
152 12hour shifts a year for £29k
so have refrained from doing anything, hence trying to find out the legal side of it :)

Exactly the same kind of set up where I work to watch for us sitting/fcuking around and if something happens they can go back and see exactly what happened! I'd say there is nothing you can do as they have a million reasons to have them , and there is no sensible argument against them being there.
But really, what is the likelihood of anyone actually watching them unless something happens?
Same deal as a gps tracker on our trucks, not a breach of human rights so your stuck with them I'm afraid
It's just ruins a laid back nightshift lol
I think that's what's pissed me off, there's only a couple places to sit and now they have cameras so your not going to want to sit there anymore
I just can't understand the logic behind it tbh, as nightshifts on a whole are more productive than the day shifts
I'm not liking the spied on feeling  but realise if I didn't have the job couldn't of built the Sport or just moved house
Some chap has just used a black marker pen on one of the cameras so that made me a little happier lol

I certainly wouldn't be damaging them either way! Then I imagine you to be "proper fcuked".

You need to purchase a folding fishing chair, a few of us have these for night shifts, park it under the camera and your laughing.

can you see the monitors?
find a nice 'black' spot where they dont point lol
I work in a shop (The Co-Operative)
They have about 10 cameras in the back that seem to be on the spots where we use to be lazy before, the only place we can still be lazy is in the walk in fridge, we just take chairs in and turn off the frIdge for a bit :)
What a shame, your going to actually have to do something to earn that 29grand a year for a change

my sentiments exactly, hard life eh! having to do what your paid for!

lol
I do 24 hours work in 12 when I'm on day shift so I feel it's ok to be lazy on nights :d
I'm grateful for the money I'm on just there's nothing in my contract about being on Big Brother lol
Have you seen "waiting"? make a hidden room with a few chairs in that no one can see of find...

Flol!
Something I would do tbh... Can imagine the manager coming in from his house to have a go to find its just a mannequin...
+1 for a brilliant idea...
When the CCTV was first installed in the warehouse we found a Woody toy from 'Toy Story, and hanged him from the ceiling just infront of the main camera, so on the monitor all you can see is woodys face.

Rally around & get someone to approach your line manager about it, if nothing comes of it atleast insist on sign being put up informing people that they will be on webcam upon entering. They will probably give in to that, might even legislation on it, pretty sure there is for shops using webcams.

I thought if there was a means of recording within a setting such as voice recording or cctv any persons upon entering the area are to be made aware that they are on cctv and it is a recorded premisis. We have cctv at the nursery i worked at for our safety, we are all made aware of it before we start to work there and had to fill a form saying we had been told about it and the voice recoding things in the office. all parents are made aware and sign a form saying they are happy for their children to be on the premisis with cctv recording. But if you have had webcams or summin before then you must of already been aware of cameras being used so i dont know.

If they put a sign up, they can put cameras up. Audio recording is a whole different ball game though.
Was going to suggest hanging or conveniently placing something in front of the cameras lol
Alternatively, try Clarkson's idea when he was in Japan to avoid speed cameras - everyone wear Bill Oddie masks, then they can't tell who is who... lol
