Hi folks, just thought id share why ive not done any nova related work, this is my daily driver, ive had it since it was 3 years old and had 32,000 miles on it when i paid £16,500 for it back in 2003, it has now covered 100,000 miles and requires a little TLC, but before i get into that a few pics of how it looks.

over the last 7 1/2 years ive kept her in ggod condition, always serviced at Audi maindealer, always fit genuine parts.
So recently i've had issues with the ABS not working, but it also cuts of the ESP and EDC, so i end up with no 4x4, and after driving it for so long i actually forgot about cars wheelspinning in the wet lol
So i bought a cheap code reader on ebay and found the fault, code 01279, longitudinal acceleration sensor, a trip to audi and £143 later i had a new one
http://i790.photobucket.com/albums/yy181/Bazil_2468/random3/6ae7ad6d.jpg
then for my money i had the pleasure of pulling my dash apart lol

you can hardly see the wee bugger in the metal case on the top left , but i was damned if i was paying Audi 2 hours labour to fit it at £81 per hour,
anyway i got it all fixed and was well happy.
So onto last Saturday and a nice drive to Dunoon took a sour turn after we just left Hell's Glen, pulling away from a junction i had the nasty shock of oil pressure warnings:cry: i shut the engine down straight away and coasted to a halt. After a few moments i started it back up ( before all the oil drained back to the sump) and to my releif there was no warnings so we continued on our drive and got home with no problems

http://i790.photobucket.com/albums/yy181/Bazil_2468/fast%20and%20modified%202010/dunoon%20run/P1000827.jpg
Later that night i check the audi forum im on and found a good few other 1.8 turbo engines have suffered the same problem. At first i thought it had been a sensor failure as the sensor at the oil pump had failed 2 years ago but after checking for codes there were none.
It turns out that a common problem on all 1.8T engines is the oil pick up pipe ang its gauze can get clogged so badly that some owners have suffered full pump failure and badly damaged engines as a result.
So today i picked up this lot, hard to beleive that a £8.23 pipe could cause so much problems.

http://i790.photobucket.com/albums/yy181/Bazil_2468/random3/P1000978.jpg
im also going to replace to dip-stick guide as these are prone to degrading and dropping plastic into the sump
so i'll update this after i pull the sump off and do this little job :)
Nice! Love em in yellow, good old Audi labour rates eh! lol lol

£81 ph is dirt cheap. It was £110 ph plus VAT at the BMW dealer I worked at when I was there!
nice audi you have there mate.
are they the latest 18" TT wheels?
no they are actually golf R32 replicas, ive destoyed so many wheels I had to buy a new set that were actually round lol I was fed up of everyone else with RS4 or RS6 wheels so went a bit different.
Novasport- that's a shock! Glad I don't have a BMW but to be honest I was looking at a E46 M3 to replace my Audi but my good friend has a M535D and he put me of buying one after telling me about his dealings with our local BMW dealer and the costs, he infact is going back to an audi soon aswell.

You get attached to your cars bazil eh! 7 years!! I defo get bored too easily lol
What do you mean Gary lol
GTE 14 years
GSI 12 years
S3 8 years
lol
well done a touch of work to this today, after sitting for 10 days after the oil pressure light carry on i took it up the shed for some work,
as it staterted the oil light went out and about 2 seconds later the lifters became silent, so up the shed and added the engine flush, after around 8 mins the oil light came on so i shut it down, then undertrays off, and oil drained.
then i set about removing the sump, a easy job as the exhaust manifold is at the rear so no downpipe in the way, sump all cleaned up and new pick up pipe fitted with a new seal and all bolted back in with new sealent as these engines dont use sump gaskets,
i was well shocked at the state of the pick up pipe, remember this car has never missed a service and has full audi service history, so if you know someone with a 1.8T vag engine tell them to get it checked!,
so a few pics :)

Oil starvation FTL! Common as muck issue on these engines. Same with the VW 20VT and apparently the Audi TT (BAM AFAIK) is worse due to some design fail/ marginal difference.
Hope yours is the APY engine, Stronger rods and can handle a much harsher map without internals turning to expensive German jelly!
YAY yeah mine is the apy but to be honest the crank and rods look tiny compared to LET ones,
also found out one of my cooling fans has bearing failure :(

Breakers yard time!
afaik the non s3 (a3) ones are no different in dimension or function. :thumb:
*edit* Also, VAG internals are built to last. Not built on steroids to hope they last. lol
Most say the standard setup is good for 340bhp but after that upgrades to the internal are needed,
I'd be happy with a remap and high flow cat, but I'll wait till the exhaust needs replaced before splashing out. It's still all it's original exhaust,
I'll take a measurement of the fan and have a look out for A3's in beakers :)

Good work mr bazil :thumb:

well just back from billing and i are happy i covered just under 800 miles with no probs, well apart from the headlights not working and blowing fuses! So i had to leave billing earlyish to make sure i got home before it got dark lol
Next i'll need to sort the lights and i think a new oil filter and oil aswell as thats about 1500 miles since the pick up pipe got changed, i want to see how bad the oil is now and hopfully there will be no sludge crap in it now.

thats scary stuff to think the pick up pipe is that choked up and the car is regulary serviced! did you use genuine parts to replace?
aye mate, all genuine parts, the full job can be done for under £100 using VAG parts and Castrol oil, if your handy with spaners its a half shift job, i took all day cos i was mincing about lol
on the audi forum i've seen a fair few 1.8's seiezed due to this and a few 3.2 V6's aswell !!! all down to oil starvation.
The crap in the sump is most commonly called turbo turds lol the turbo congeals bits of oil due to the heat lad i work with has a passat 20vt and hes replaced oil pump and pickup too.
Ahh i see, a few fellow S3 owners have replaced the turbo oil return pipe aswell but at £80 for the pipe by itself i said no thanks lol

fooking how much for CV boots? I would have gone to a factors, normally about £5 or so each!
Can't get inboard CV boots for the Quattro shafts plus they don't come with the new caps etc,
Plus that one has lasted 110,000 miles so there good quality lol
Typical VW, make it slightly different and charge 5 times as much for it as you can't get it elsewhere lol
Yup, like rear discs on the S3, vented so no motor factors carry them as they are specific to only 1 model
Forgot to add this picture, I have to remove the actuall full front bumper, and remove the full headlight to change the xenon bulbs lol, a bit of a faff to say the least lol
