Following on from the previous threads about my oil leak...is it possible to replace the gasket with the exhaust manifold in place (4-2-1 if it makes a difference) or does it have to come off?
I was thinking of just lowering the sump enough to get the gasket in and helicoil the block where its stripped the thread then refit, but I'm new to these engines so no idea on the oil pickup pipe arrangement.
Any info would be great :thumb: I will get a Haynes manual but its a case of urgency as I need it sorting before PVS!

pretty certain youde need te manifold off too - they hug the sump in profile quite well i thought.. just no room
yeah definitly need the manifold off, you only get a couple inches gap if you dont

The oil pick up pipe stops you taking it off with out taking the manifold/ downpipe off mate. The sump baffle plates are pretty tight round the pick up pipe.
Echo above, Your want more space to check sump for damage etc and clean any silicone if it has any.
You can get away with dropping it down off the studs and not taking it off fully

Its more to do the helicoil on the front corner. I was hoping to rotate the sump slightly to do this then lower it slightly to change the gasket...more as a matter of course while the sumps off
Having a bit more of a think about it, Even less chance as it has a alloy sump and it bolts up to the gearbox, so you cant just twist it or whatever. It wont be easy, So IMO, for the cost of a gasket, Drop the exhaust and have a much easier time doing the job.

10NM, Its important you don't over do it as the sumps can crack and you can pull the threads out of the block.
