That being said, I don't think using a blow-up doll would be considered cheating, unless the boyfriend begins to develop feelings for the doll...in which case he should probably be referred to a psychiatrist.

Yes, this. I'm surprised that people would equate the whole doll with a vibrator or other sex toy for stimulating the genitals. That's completely different from having sex with something that is meant to replicate a whole person. And they are creepy -- google "uncanny valley." There's also the necrophilia angle. I don't see how imagining yourself having sex with an unmoving, non-participating "partner" is very sexy, but okay.
