the salt kills them quick you need to powerwash underneath without fail etc :(

I'm the same, i dont want my nova rusting, so i have my trusty white bus to get me to work.

Problem is, the white car is so clean, i'm gonna get another winter car when i can afford it, and start a project on it!

Winter car lol, that what this started out as:

then it turned into my summer/winter everyday runaround, i really cant rest easy leaving the nova anywhere out of my sight lol im sad so sad . The rover cost me ?50 and after a quick engine rebuild to sort out a burnt out valve it hasnt failed in 8000 miles. Its so nice to have a car that i can use and abuse.

keeps the nova lookin shiney

lol @ ollster, thats exaclty the same as me m8, i bought a f*$%a for running around in but now i use it most ov the time and keep the nova locked up, i bought it for a few reasons, my nova cant get over the speed bumps goin into my work cause its 2 low, the nova doesnt go up hills in the winter when it snow ( bloody wide wheels) which i cant swap for smaller ones cause then i counldnt put it in or take it out my garage!!

if you cannae afford a winter car or dont have a garage to store your car (where you can wipe it down) just make sure before winter kicks in you take time to protect the panels. I usually give the car a complet thorough clean in mid/late October - this usually involves sealing all inner panels with wayoyl (between door panels, 1/4 panels, round the rear arches inside the car, inside the rear light and boot areas etc.

I than get the car up on ramps or use a pit and completely seal the underside - which is already sealed anyway but I check for areas that have been compromised - clean off the rust, hammerite it and then use grey stripe or bitumen paint. Do around the wheel arches and if you can get the wings and bumpers off to seal under there too - especially under the wings - where dirt and salt etc gets thrown up through the gap between the slam panel light housing and the wing.

your car will stink of waxoyl for a week or three but it'll be protected as best you can.

Try living near the seaside! Not only do you have to put up with salt and grit on the roads but the salty sea air and howling wind/rain

my everday runaround

i dont like taking the nova out everyday, its cost me alot to build and if i do work on it i dont wanna have to rush it so i can get it back on the road for work on a monday or whatever. i dont intend on using it over winter so the shell will stay in mint condition.

I've spent a lot of time and money on mine also, but i use it every day, all year round.

same here. it has picked up a few marks though, hectic, busy tight spacing at uni doesnt help all part and parcel of running one of these daily though

i brought a ?100 nova sr sh1tter )as oli will verify) while mine is in the bodyshop being sprayed, when it comes out i'll sell the sh1tter an wait til late october an buy another ?50 sh1tter for the winter months, the main reason people do this is so salt from the gritted roads doesn't attack the paintwork an also if they have a crash on snowy/icey roads it's not the car they have put loads of cash & hardwork into that will be damaged

lol i wouldnt say its a shitter , i would simply say i bet it adds an element of fun when the cars held together by the paint. Probably a sense of acheivment that you actually make it toyour destination alive lol.

When i get the new moter....few months till im 24 and can afford to insure it for reasonably sensible cash....i will buy a calibra 16v for a few hundred notes as a runaround/work car etc....

leather, aircon, 17s- all for about ?800.
Cant be bad.
